On the afternoon of November 18, Kpop girl group MEOVV (including Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, Ella) of The Black Label company returned to the music race with 2 new songs "Toxic" and "Body". Of which, the song "Toxic" had its MV released on YouTube.
This is MEOVV's comeback after more than 2 months, since the debut single "MEOW" released on September 6, 2024.
Notably, this time, MEOVV suddenly changed their style. If “MEOW” is mainly rap and hip-hop, then “Toxic” is an R&B song with a dreamy, melodious melody.
In addition, the theme surrounding the new music product is also different. In "MEOW", the MEOVV group still follows YG's familiar formula, similar to most of Blackpink's hit songs, which is to show off wealth, playfulness, partying... Some lyrics are commented to be disjointed and difficult to understand.
In “Toxic”, the group sings about a toxic relationship that is difficult to escape because of being too immersed and blind. Instead of cliched lyrics, “Toxic” has its own story. The members also show off their soulful and attractive voices.
However, the MV "Toxic" was filmed quite monotonously, with images of girls wearing the black wings of fallen angels, without any impressive scenes.
Many opinions say that "Toxic" is unlikely to help MEOVV explode.
In its first hour of release, “Toxic” did not rank high on Korean music charts. The song debuted at number 87 on Bugs and 220 on Genie, failing to enter the Melon chart.
