Recently, on the online community Pann Nate, a post about the girl group MEOVV of The Black Label produced by Teddy attracted more than 80 thousand reads.
The poster talked about MEOVV's lack of activities after their debut music promotions: "Have they given up on attracting fans here? They're acting like superstars even though they're just rookies. Come out of the treasure box."
MEOVV (5 members: Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, Ella) is the first girl group of The Black Label, debuted on September 6, 2024 with the single "MEOW".
This is one of the most anticipated rookie girl groups this year. At the press conference, Narin expressed her determination: "We will work hard to become a group that represents the 5th generation of Kpop."
However, up to now, MEOVV has not exploded and spread as expected.
The group has made limited appearances on music shows and other media platforms since their debut. After a few sparse stages promoting "MEOW", the group has not had any other activities throughout October, other than attending the HERMES event earlier in the month.
Because she did not appear, Anna was the only member of MEOVV to make it into the Top 100 Kpop female idol reputation rankings for October, ranking 90th.
This has Korean netizens questioning whether The Black Label is keeping them in a "treasure box," a term often used to describe artists who have been out of the public eye for a long time.
On Pann, Korean audiences commented: "Because they don't appear anywhere, their reputation has dropped significantly", "People are starting to forget this group", "Times have changed. There's no more time to hide them in treasure boxes"...
Some other comments compared MEOVV to Blackpink. Comments pointed out that although Blackpink also used a drip promotion strategy, they have appeared on shows like Weekly Idol, Running Man, and Knowing Bros.
MEOVV doesn't even release behind-the-scenes videos or live broadcast videos. Other than dance videos, the public has absolutely no idea what the members' personalities are like.
In addition, many opinions say that the most important issue for MEOVV is still improving the quality of music. Because the debut song was not attractive, the group's reputation gradually declined.
When there was no hit, the company applied a drip promotion strategy, causing the group to be forgotten even more.
