On February 25, poet Tran Huu Viet expressed his condolences for the passing of poet Duong Ky Anh. According to poet Huu Viet, poet Duong Ky Anh passed away this morning.
Poet Duong Ky Anh's real name is Duong Xuan Nam, born in 1948 in Xuyen Cam (now Tran Phu village) in Ky Xuan commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province. He was former Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, a member of the Vietnam Writers' Association.
In 1972, he graduated from the University of Literature, joined the Vietnam People's Army, and was a missile control officer. In 1975, he worked at Tien Phong Newspaper until retirement.
Poet Duong Ky Anh is also known as the pioneer who initiated the idea of organizing the first beauty contest for Vietnamese women. He is considered the "father" of the Miss Vietnam contest - the first, longest and prestigious beauty pageant in Vietnam
Poet Duong Ky Anh has held the role of Head of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Jury of the Miss Vietnam contest from 1988 to 2008.

Poet Duong Ky Anh also won a number of awards for literature and art: Award of the Military Arts Magazine 1988, Award of best Poetry selected by Nhan Dan Newspaper 1988, Special Prize - Nguyen Du Literature and Arts Award for Xuyen Cam novel in 2005.
During his retirement years, he lived with his family in Soc Son (Hanoi).
