Journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper - Head of the Organizing Committee of Miss Vietnam 2024 admitted, "the beauty contest market is very vibrant".
After 36 years, the “beauty contest market” has changed a lot. Miss Vietnam no longer holds a monopoly, but has to compete with many other contests.
In 2022 alone, there were more than 30 beauty contests held on various scales, including: Miss Universe Vietnam, Miss Grand Vietnam, Miss World Vietnam, Miss Eco Vietnam, Miss Sports Vietnam, Miss Tourism Vietnam Global, Miss Businesswoman Universe...
Organizing too many beauty pageants has made the “beauty market” saturated. On social networking forums, the public humorously commented, “nowadays, you can see beauty queens and runner-ups on the street”, noting that having too many beauty queens and runner-ups has made the pageants no longer get attention. According to statistics, there are weekend evenings when 2-3 beauty queens and dozens of runner-ups are crowned at the same time.
Talking to Lao Dong reporters about these issues before the launch of the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest, journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, Head of the contest's organizing committee said, "It is true that in recent years, the "beauty contest market" - let's call it that, is becoming more vibrant. I think this is inevitable.
The market develops when society has needs, audiences - the public want to enjoy cultural and entertainment values, from which businesses participate in organizing more and more. In the excitement of the market, I see the positive. With the question you raised about saturation, about too many beauty contests being organized, I also see it in a positive light.
The positive thing is that when there are many contests, the public and audience will look back at Miss Vietnam, they will have more information and more data to compare.
Over the past 36 years, Miss Vietnam has always maintained the traditions and values that were set from the very beginning. We always strive to organize in a methodical, professional and large-scale manner. So that when mentioning Miss Vietnam, what remains in the public's mind will always be the image of the beauty queens - whom we have selected and crowned worthy."

When asked, “What is the true value of a beauty queen? When there are too many beauty queens, do you think the country’s economy will change, will world peace change?”, journalist Phung Cong Suong affirmed, “There are many beauty pageants now, I don’t dare to talk about other contests, I just want to talk about the Miss Vietnam contest. Over the past 36 years, we have always been steadfast in the good values that the pioneering generation has set for the contest, which is to honor girls who are not only beautiful in appearance, but also beautiful in soul and intelligence, a beautiful image of Vietnamese women over time.”
Accordingly, journalist Phung Cong Suong said, “In the trend of global economic integration, beauty queens have made many contributions to society. For example, beauty queens have contributed to promoting tourism, promoting many industries and fields, they are also very active in volunteer movements for the community. Our runners-up and beauty queens always participate in charity projects, they go to flood-hit areas, they join hands, call for building houses for the poor, they spread the good values of Vietnamese women. I think that beauty queens and runners-up have done their mission well, they sow the seeds of goodness, spread good values, multiply positivity... to contribute to building an increasingly better and more humane society.”
