The suffering of the film about prisoners in Con Dao after the "Red Rain" fever

On social networks, images recreating Con Dao prisoners in prison in the dark were widely shared at the time when the movie "Red Rain" caused a box office fever.

The video recording the scene of Con Dao prisoners skinny, khmer- weaving, and imprisoned in prison was spread. The video cut from a movie, recreating the image of prisoners in Con Dao, haunted viewers.

The video attracted 3 million views on Facebook and nearly 2 million views on TikTok. Many people were surprised because the cast all had thin bodies, exposed ribs, and thin limbs.

These images are from the film "Thanh am vu ngan cong" by two directors Dao Duy Phuc - Nguyen Manh Ha.

"Thanh am vu ngan cong" is a State film project ordered through the Department of Cinema (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). The film is inspired by stories about Con Dao prison - considered a "hell in the world" in the period of 1945 - 1954.

In the darkest place, the revolutionary fire is still burning fiercely among prisoners, maintaining absolute trust under the direction of the Party organization in prison.

"Ao Dai Thanh Hoan Hoan" received a lot of attention at a time when "Red Rain" was still leading the box office. "Red Rain" has earned more than 640 billion VND - a historic milestone for a film about war and revolution.

"Red Rain" produced by the People's Army Cinema, was released commercially and shown at cinemas nationwide. The efforts to release "Red Rain" commercially have helped the war film genre make a spectacular breakthrough at the box office.

Many audiences also expect "Thanh am vu ngan cong" to continue the success of war films this year such as "Mua thuong" and "Dien dao".

However, "The Voice Over the Ocean" is not widely shown in private cinemas. The film will be released on September 16, 2025 at the National Film Center.

As the release date approached, "Thanh am vu ngan cong" had not yet had promotional activities, it was thanks to a popular behind-the-scenes video that the audience knew that a historical film was about to be released.

This release is similar to "Peach, Pho and Piano" - a work ordered by the state for propaganda purposes, shown to celebrate the country's major holidays.

Initially, the film was shown quietly with few screenings. Thanks to the spread of social networks, "Dao, Pho and Piano" was enthusiastically supported, the number of screenings increased, and was shown in many other theaters to serve the audience.

"The sound of transcending the ocean" is still like many other state-ordered films, quietly released in theaters, no one knows. You can air it quietly for a few sessions and then store it.

In "The Voice Over the Ocean", the main character in the film is Tam (Nguyen Thuy Duong) - a girl playing the monochord, entering the revolutionary path and taking on the task of becoming a nurse to care for and support prisoners. Here, she met Duy (Nguyen Quang Thuan) and his teammates secretly implementing a plan to build a boat to cross the sea according to the organization's instructions.

The film has the participation of a team of experienced actors such as People's Artist Bui Bai Binh, actor Vinh Xuong, young actors Thuy Duong, Quang Thuan.
