Currently, two Vietnamese films "Detective Kien" by Victor Vu and "Flip Side 8" by Ly Hai are both dominating the Vietnamese box office.
The movie "Flip Side 8: Sun Hands" had a better start. The film was shown early from April 27 to the afternoon of May 6, according to Box Office Vietnam, its revenue reached about 161 billion VND.
Meanwhile, the film "Detective Kien: Ky an Khong Tan" earned over 144 billion VND after being shown early from the evening of April 25 to the afternoon of May 6.
Recently, "Flip Side 8" has almost held the top spot at the Vietnamese box office in both screenings and daily revenue, at one point in the last 2 days of the weekend, Ly Hai's film revenue reached about 20 billion VND/day.
This is also the first Vietnamese film to reach the 100 billion VND mark when shown on the occasion of April 30 and May 1.
Meanwhile, "Detective Kien" recently, when shown with "Flip Side 8", Victor Vu's film had fierce competition for screenings as well as daily revenue. There were times when, although there were fewer screenings, "Detective Kien" had better day's revenue due to better theatrical occupancy rate.
By the afternoon of May 6, the film "Detective Kien" had surpassed "Flip Side 8" in both screenings and daily revenue.
As of the afternoon of May 6, "Detective Kien" has 2,833 screenings and revenue reached 4.9 billion VND. Meanwhile, Ly Hai's film "Flip Side 8" had 2,801 screenings and reached 4.4 billion VND.
Currently, these two projects still do not have any competitors outside the theater. According to many experts, Ly Hai and Victor Vu's films will both have a wide revenue of 200 billion VND in the near future.
Currently, "Flip Side 8" by Ly Hai received multi-dimensional feedback from the audience. Many people think that the film chooses a theme that is not new or too traditional: The story of children who want to pursue their own dreams but face opposition from parents for the reason of eating and drinking for money.
With "Detective Kien", Victor Vu returns to the spiritual detective film genre, which is his great passion. However, many viewers believe that the film is only at a level of roundabout, not too breakthrough.
