Vietnamese box office after the April 30 and May 15 holidays has not had many unexpected changes. The films that dominate the box office are still focusing on Vietnamese projects such as "Detective Kien" and "Flip Side 8".
In which, the box office leader for nearly a week has been "Lat mat 8" by Ly Hai. As of the morning of May 5, the film has earned 150 billion VND. Over the past 2 weekends, the film earned an average of 20 billion VND per day.
Following closely behind "Flip Side 8" is "Detective Kien" by Victor Vu, reaching over 132 billion VND.
Vietnamese box office currently has many foreign films in the market, the most notable of which is still "Thunderbolts" (Vietnamese title: "Thunder Squad"; Marvel's films have been heavily invested in, highly appreciated for their content, plot and message).
However, "Thunder Squad" currently only has a revenue of 16.5 billion VND. Each day, the film only earns 1-2 billion VND. Partly because the audience of this blockbuster is not too crowded and the film is not favored for many screenings. On May 5, the film had about 794 screenings.
"Thunder Squad" is the 36th film in the Marvel cinematic Universe (MCU), and is also the work that closes phase 5, before the blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
The film will be released globally on May 2, marking the return of Marvel after a quiet 2024. The film brings together a group of characters who were once villain or anti-hero, now recruited to carry out tasks that no one wants to accept.
"The pencil boy: Mystery! Tenkasu Flower Academy" is a anime brand that is quite familiar to Vietnamese audiences but not as strong as Conan or Doraemon. The film has a revenue of about 8 billion VND, ranking fourth.
Thanks to the release of a special edition dedicated to this year's April 30 holiday, another Vietnamese film, "Tunnel: Sun in the dark", maintained its fifth place, with total revenue to date reaching 170 billion VND.
"The Accountant 2 (Codeword: Accountant 2)" - a quality action film by star Ben Affleck - was not successful in Vietnam. In the world, the film earned 47 million USD and was a big hit in the US with 34 million USD (according to The Numbers), but the revenue in Vietnam was only 732 million VND.
