According to Box Office Vietnam, Tran Thanh's film "The Four Guardians" earned 255 billion VND as of the morning of February 6. Meanwhile, Thu Trang's "The Billionaire Kiss" earned 86 billion VND.
For 8 consecutive days from January 29 to February 5, "The Avengers" always held the No. 1 position in daily box office revenue. The film topped the daily revenue with the number of tickets sold and screenings overwhelming the remaining films in theaters.
Thu Trang's movie "Billion Dollar Kiss" also had a slow start, with no breakthrough revenue due to limited screenings.
However, on February 4 and 5, "The Billionaire Kiss" was shown twice as many times, helping the film's revenue surpass its competitors. At one point, Thu Trang's film revenue was even close to catching up with Tran Thanh's project "The Four Guardians".
But on the morning of February 6, the situation changed unexpectedly. According to Box Office Vietnam, which calculated the number of pre-booked tickets and revenue on the morning of February 6, Tran Thanh's "The Four Guardians" unexpectedly dropped to the top 2 position at the Vietnamese box office, earning only over 3.1 billion VND even though the film occupied over 4,100 screenings.
On the contrary, Thu Trang's "Billion Dollar Kiss" rose to the top with 3.4 billion VND on the morning of February 6, and the film had 3,700 screenings.
Thus, after 8 days of showing in theaters, Tran Thanh's project "The Four Guardians" was rarely surpassed in revenue (by day) by Thu Trang's film on the morning of February 6.
Remember that in the 2023 and 2024 Tet film seasons, Tran Thanh continuously held the box office throne. In fact, this male director's project even took the No. 1 spot in daily box office revenue for about a month when his film was released in theaters. The director's projects at that time, "Nha Ba Nu" and "Mai", had no rivals in theaters despite having to compete with Vietnamese films and foreign blockbusters.
However, this year's Tet movie season, Tran Thanh's movies are losing revenue and showing many times.
Although currently, the total revenue of "The Four Guardians" is still superior to the remaining films in theaters, the ticket sales speed of the project that Tran Thanh is directing has decreased significantly compared to before.
According to film experts' predictions, although the Tet movie season has ended, the sales of "The Four Guardians" and "The Billionaire Kiss" will continue to increase and will continue to reach new milestones before a strong enough competitor appears to join the profit pie.
This weekend, the Vietnamese movie "Ghost Lamp" will be released in theaters, promising to surprise at the box office because the horror genre has been quite popular in Vietnam recently.
Meanwhile, the Marvel blockbuster "Captain America: Brave New World" will be shown at the Vietnamese box office from February 14 and will be a strong competitor to Thu Trang and Tran Thanh's film.
