In January this year, the Korean drama The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call caused a storm when it was released on Netflix.
After that, the film won the Best Television Series award at the 4th Blue Dragon Television Awards. Actor Joo Ji Hoon also won the Best Actor award in both Blue Dragon and Baeksang.
The success of Trauma Care Center comes from many factors, in which, the popularity of the original novel and webtoon of the same name is an important foundation.
In particular, the author of the original novel was a doctor, so the details in the work became more convincing than ever.
novelist/writer Lee Nak Joon, also known by the pen name Hansanleega, is the original author of The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call.
Before that, he was an ENT doctor for many years. He graduated from Korea Inha Medical University, completed an internship program at the same university hospital, and then trained in surgery at Samsung Medical Center before completing the ENT program.
He then served in the Air Force as a military doctor.
However, in the latest episode of the show Where Is My Home, Lee Nak Joon revealed that he has now become a full-time writer and all of his income comes from this creative work.
Lee Nak Joon has been out of practice for more than 5 years.
When asked about his income from being a doctor to a writer, Lee Nak Joon frankly replied, "Even before the release of The Trauma Code (2019), my income from online novels was not bad. He earned about 3-4 times his income as a doctor.
Lee Nak Joon recalled: When The Trauma Code was successful and adapted into a webtoon, I went to see the director of the hospital where I worked to ask for his resignation. But before he could explain, he asked: "Why do you want to quit? Should I increase your salary? ".
I told him that my novel was selling well and I wanted to focus on writing in earnest for a few months.
In 2020, Lee Nak Joon initially planned to open his own clinic a few months later, but when COVID-19 broke out, the plan was delayed, and he eventually switched to a full-time screenwriting career.
Recently, Xports News reported that Netflix confirmed that it will produce parts 2 and 3 of the hit medical drama Trauma Care Center. However, a Netflix representative told the media, "We are considering producing a sequel to The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, but there is no confirmation yet."
When asked about the possibility of releasing a second part of the film, Lee Nak Joon said he could not answer anything about this issue.
