On August 5 (local time), the organizing committee of the MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMAs) 2025 officially announced the nomination list for this year's awards ceremony, including a number of nominations for Kpop artists.
Over the past few years, K-pop has consolidated its position as one of the key music genres of the industry. To recognize the growing influence of this music genre, VMAs introduced the "Best Kpop" category in 2019, and since then it has become an official category at the awards ceremony.
This year, the Best Kpop nominations include: Whiplash - aespa, Like JENNIE - Jennie (Blackpink), Who - Jimin (BTS), Earthquake - Jisoo (Blackpink), Born again - Lisa (Blackpink) collaborated with Doja Cat and Raye, Chk Chk Boom - Stray Kids, Toxic the Till End - Rose (Blackpink).
Notably, Rose has received a total of 8 nominations this year. In addition to Best Kpop, Rose's song "APT." featuring Bruno Mars was nominated in 7 categories including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Music, Best Collaboration, Best Director, Best Art Directing and Best Imaging Effects.
Meanwhile, girl group KATSEYE was nominated for Performance of the Year award for the song "Touch".
The MTV Video Music Awards 2025 took place in New York (USA), broadcast live on the evening of September 7 (local time).
