2.3 million preschool and high school students in Hanoi will have a day off on October 1

SÓNG HỮU |

Due to heavy rain and difficult travel, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training decided to let 2.3 million students from kindergartens and general schools in the area take a day off on October 1.

On the evening of September 30, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) Tran The Cuong said that due to continued heavy rain affecting learning and the transportation system throughout the city, the Department has decided to let all educational institutions take a day off on October 1.

Teachers can flexibly teach students online. Schools need to strictly follow the instructions of the Department Director, said Mr. Cuong.

On September 30, in response to the storm, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training issued an official dispatch requesting schools and educational institutions to regularly monitor weather forecasts to proactively prevent, respond and overcome the consequences.

Units need to review and prepare plans according to the "4 on-site" motto; check the green tree system in the campus, promptly handle or warn trees at risk of falling; move assets, equipment, and records to safe places.

In schools in the storm center, especially with boarding students, it is necessary to closely coordinate with parents and authorities to ensure absolute safety for students, while preparing enough drinking water, food and provisions for their time at school.

In cases where students cannot go to class due to flooding, educational institutions must proactively develop appropriate forms of learning. After the storm, urgently clean up and sanitize classrooms, ensure safety and prevent epidemics.

The Department also requires absolutely no organization of extracurricular activities or collective activities, especially in areas at risk of flooding and landslides. Establish a channel to inform parents to manage students when participating in local activities, minimizing the risks that may occur due to storms.

The circulation after storm Bualoi (storm No. 10) has caused heavy to very heavy rain in the North in the past two days and will continue in the next few days.

As of 4:00 p.m. today, Hanoi recorded 75 flooded spots, mainly in the inner city and the western gateway. Flooded roads make Hanoi traffic chaotic. On the morning of September 30, a series of schools let students stay home or pick up students late.

In the face of the storm, Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary and High School informed all parents: to ensure safety, the bus system will stop operating this afternoon, September 30, 2025.

The school will organize dinner and overnight sleep for all students who register to stay; support breakfast tomorrow (October 1, 2025). The school ensures the same portion sizes for the day as the boarding meals for students (parents, students register with homeroom teachers).

"In case parents pick up their children, please carefully consider safety factors and notify the homeroom teacher" - the announcement clearly stated.

At the same time, Marie Curie School (My Dinh) announced that it "does not let students go hungry or cold because they cannot go home". The school provides free dinner meals for students.

Principal Nguyen Xuan Khang asked the kitchen, teachers and the supervisory team to take care of all the food and sleep for the students who had to stay at school tonight.

Millions of arms turn to compatriots affected by storms and floods

Consecutive storms No. 8, 9, 10 and floods caused by the storm have killed 19 people and many people are missing. Many houses and production and business establishments had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage.
