Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No. 2165/QD-TTg dated September 30, 2025 on the appointment of Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau to the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense.
According to the decision, the Prime Minister appointed Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee - to hold the position of Deputy Minister of National Defense.
This decision takes effect from September 30, 2025.
Before 2019, he was Colonel, Deputy Political Commissar and then Political Commissar of the 8th Infantry Division; Political Commissar of Military Region 9.
In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Major General. He was appointed Political Commissar of Military Region 9 in November 2020.
On January 30, 2021, at the 13th National Congress of the Party, he was elected as a member of the 13th Party Central Committee, term 2021-2026.
On January 27, 2022, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a decision to appoint Major General Nguyen Van Gau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Political Commissar of Military Region 9 to hold the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
In January 2023, he was promoted to Lieutenant General, holding the position of Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army.
In 2024, the Politburo transferred and appointed Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and hold the position of Secretary of the Bac Giang Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term. After the merger of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau continued to hold the position of Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee.
On the morning of September 30, the first Congress of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, took place solemnly.
Senior General Nguyen Hong Thai - Member of the 13th Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense - was appointed by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term.
