On April 19, Hanoi National University of Education held a ceremony to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Faculty of Social Work.
At the ceremony, besides reviewing the development journey, the school also emphasized the issues raised for the Social Work sector in the new period.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Rector of Hanoi National University of Education - said that social work is one of the few industries that clearly converges 3 outstanding characteristics: profound humanity, high interdisciplinary nature and widespread scope of operation.

First of all, this is an industry imbued with humanity. The core goal of social work is to support people, improve the quality of life and contribute to ensuring social security.
Social workers are people who are directly attached to people, to reality and to the community, thereby helping them have a happier life" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Son shared.
The second characteristic of the Social Work sector is interdisciplinary nature. Accordingly, social workers not only operate in one professional field, but must approach a variety of knowledge from psychology, education, medicine to sociology and law, in order to handle complex and multi-dimensional issues of individuals and communities.
The third characteristic mentioned by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Son is the wide range of activities. Social work is present in many fields from schools, hospitals to social organizations and the social security system. This is also the reason why the demand for human resources in this field is increasing.

In the context of society increasingly experiencing many problems related to mental health, inequality and vulnerable groups, the role of social work is increasingly affirmed.
From a training perspective, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Head of the Faculty of Social Work - said that after 15 years of development, the faculty has gradually built a training system associated with practice, expanded the cooperation network and improved research capacity.

In 2025, the faculty was allowed to train doctoral degrees in Social Work, and at the same time opened a social science major. The completion of the training system from bachelor to doctor is considered an important development step, contributing to improving the quality of human resources in this field.
Sharing about the development orientation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Binh said: "In the next 5-10 years, the Faculty of Social Work aims to become a reputable training and research center, connecting schools, communities and social service systems, training human resources with expertise and social responsibility.
