The seniority allowance for teachers is a financial allowance for teachers with many years of experience in the education sector.
This allowance is calculated based on the percentage increase in the number of years of work, to recognize and encourage them to stay in the profession for a long time. Therefore, this treatment regime always receives the attention of the teaching staff.
Recently, there have been many questions related to seniority allowances such as duration, calculation method, etc., including a question from Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi.
Ms. Kim Chi graduated from the University of Education in 2015, was recruited as a civil servant and worked at a secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City since January 2016 as a Grade III Secondary School Teacher, teaching Geography.
For personal reasons, in 2025, Ms. Kim Chi will retake the exam and pass the high school civil service exam in Quang Ngai province, as a Grade III High School Teacher, teaching Geography. Ms. Kim Chi asked if she was allowed to keep the salary and seniority coefficient when she returned to her new school?
The Ministry of Education and Training responds to this issue as follows:
The seniority allowance regime for teachers is implemented according to the provisions of Decree No. 77/2021/ND-CP dated August 1, 2021 of the Government.
Accordingly, teachers participating in teaching and education who have paid compulsory social insurance for 5 years (60 months) are entitled to seniority allowances equal to 5% of their current salary plus leadership position allowances and seniority allowances exceeding the framework (if any). From the sixth year onwards, each year (12-month period) is calculated by adding 1%.
Based on current regulations, from January 2016 to before being recruited for the second time as a Grade III High School Teacher in Quang Ngai province, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi has participated in teaching, education and paid compulsory social insurance (not yet receiving one-time social insurance), which is counted as the time to calculate seniority allowances for teachers according to regulations.
