The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued a warning on the afternoon of January 2 about false and distorted information related to the content in the History - Geography subject of grade 5 textbooks (set "Connecting Knowledge with Life").
According to the Ministry, recently, some false and distorted information and comments have appeared on social networks about the history content in the set of textbooks (SGK) "Connecting Knowledge with Life", creating misjudged assessments of the content of the set of books.
This may create concern and doubt about the quality of the book set, cause social confusion, and affect the major policy of the Party and State on education and training. Among them, the typical information is: History - Geography textbooks of grade 5 only have content teaching about Nguyen Anh (Gia Long) but not about Quang Trung - Tay Son movement; from there, leading to unfounded denial of the historical content in the textbooks.
The Ministry of Education and Training has organized a review and the results show that: The teaching content about Quang Trung and the Tay Son movement is arranged fully, systematically, throughout the classes such as grade 4 (History and Geography), grade 7 (History), grade 8 (History); The teaching content about the Nguyen Dynasty as a dynasty is expressed objectively and fully. In which, the content about Nguyen Anh is arranged according to the logic of history in grade 5 (History and Geography), grade 7 and grade 8 (History).
The arrangement of the above contents in the "Connecting Knowledge with Life" textbook set is consistent with the logic of historical progress, consistent with the goals and psychological characteristics of the age group, and correctly reflects the viewpoint of the 2018 General Education Program (not to approach history in the direction of idolatry or judgment of personal morality; placing characters and events in a specific historical context; ensuring science, objectivity, and balance in historical education).
The Ministry of Education and Training affirmed that the view that the textbook set "Connecting Knowledge with Life" does not teach or underestimates Quang Trung - the Tay Son movement is distorting information and intentionally slanderous; the fact that the History - Geography textbook of grade 5 learns the lesson "The Birth of the Nguyen Dynasty" is consistent with the historical flow and program objectives, cannot be separated from the overall content learned in previous grades and will continue to be learned in later grades.
The Ministry of Education and Training has issued a document requesting the Ministry of Public Security and functional agencies to verify and clarify the motives and purposes of creating and spreading false information and comments, distorting historical content in textbooks to strictly handle violations (if any) in order to ensure political security in the field of education and training.
