On June 14, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) informed about reviewing and adjusting a number of contents in the General Education Program (GDPT) to ensure consistency with reality and the new development context.
The review and adjustment of subject programs in the context that the whole country is implementing the National Assembly's Resolution on the arrangement of provincial administrative units. The number of provinces and cities decreased from 63 to 34.
The Ministry of Education and Training has identified a number of subjects directly affected by changes in administrative boundaries, including: History and Geography for grade 4, grade 5, grade 9; Geography for grade 12; History and Education for Economics and Law for grade 10.
These subjects will take steps according to regulations to revise the subject program as a basis for editing textbooks, such as updating the required requirements, knowledge content, place names, data, maps, charts and socio-economic information, etc.
The editing of the subject program is carried out on the principle of minimizing changes in textbooks, enhancing guidance for teachers and schools to proactively implement the program according to their authority to suit reality.

The 2018 GDPT program demonstrates the goal of general education, ensuring a unified orientation and core educational content, mandatory for students. textbooks specify the content of the Program and are identified as important learning materials and documents for schools to choose teaching institutions. Teachers and schools are given the initiative to arrange learning topics, update and supplement content to suit students, teaching organization conditions and practical conditions.
Therefore, in the 2025-2026 school year, teachers and schools will continue to use the current curriculum and textbooks, and are also responsible for proactively selecting and adjusting language, lessons, and teaching topics to suit local realities and the two-level government model.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training will issue documents directing and guiding localities and schools to implement it to ensure continuity, without interruption and in accordance with reality.
