On March 10, Mr. Tran Hong Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Construction - and a working delegation visited and worked with the Western University of Civil Engineering. Attending the working session were leaders of Vinh Long province, representatives of units under the Ministry of Construction and partners of the school.
At the working session, Mr. Nguyen Van Xuan - Rector of Mien Tay University of Civil Engineering - said that the school is a public educational institution directly under the Ministry of Construction, training human resources for the construction industry in the direction of application for the Mekong Delta region.
Currently, the school has 229 officials, employees and laborers; is training 9 majors in the fields of construction and transportation. In the 2025-2026 school year, the school enrolls 1,160 students, with a total student scale of about 2,736 students.
Regarding training quality, the graduation rate annually reaches over 95%, of which about 92.4% of students have jobs after graduation. The school also achieves higher education quality accreditation according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In the field of science and technology, in the 2025-2026 school year, the school implements many research topics, publishing dozens of scientific articles at home and abroad. At the same time, the school strengthens international cooperation and signs cooperation agreements with many domestic and foreign units.
At the working session, Mien Tay University of Civil Engineering proposed that the Ministry of Construction pay attention to and create conditions to continue investing in facilities for the school in the period 2026-2030 to improve the quality of training and scientific research.
In addition, the school also proposed that the Ministry of Construction create conditions to soon form a training facility in Can Tho City. According to the development orientation for the period 2026-2030, the school sets a target to increase the total training scale to about 5,500 learners by 2030.

Speaking at the working session, Minister Tran Hong Minh acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the collective of officials and lecturers of the Western University of Civil Engineering in the past time.
The Minister said that the school has achieved many positive results in training, scientific research and international cooperation. However, the development scale of the school is still modest, and it is necessary to continue to innovate and improve the quality of training to meet the human resource needs of the construction industry.
Minister Tran Hong Minh said that the Ministry of Construction will consider the school's recommendations within its authority, and at the same time create conditions for the school to continue to develop, gradually enhancing its position in the training system of the construction industry.
