According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on the afternoon of September 21, at the main school site of Dong Tien Secondary School, Dong Tien commune, Thanh Hoa province, deep flooding still occurred.
On the road leading to the school and the schoolyard area, water is knee-deep, even in some places about 1m deep, causing difficulties for travel. This situation has caused 642 students of the school to be absent from school for many days.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, teacher Hoang Van Thang - Principal of Dong Tien Secondary School said that the school has been deeply flooded since September 17th, and so far it has been 5 days since students had to take leave from school.
The road leading to the school is currently flooded about 70cm deep, and in the school area, the deepest place is about 1m. The most worrying thing is that the water level is currently receding very slowly, which may lead to students having to take leave for the rest of the week" - Mr. Thang said.
Also according to Mr. Thang, currently, the school only has the option of waiting for the water to recede, then carrying out cleaning and disinfection before welcoming students back to school. When teaching and learning activities are restored, the school will develop a plan to organize compensatory teaching, ensuring the learning program for students.
A school representative added that the deep flooding situation at the school is not new. During the floods caused by storm No. 10 in 2025, the school also had to let students take 15 days off to wait for the water to recede, and then organize teaching and learning again.
The school hopes that the local authorities and functional agencies will soon have solutions to improve the road surface leading to the school, invest in large-capacity pumping stations to speed up drainage and limit prolonged deep flooding every time floods occur.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Quang - Vice Chairman of Dong Tien Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province said that there are currently 3 schools flooded in the area, including Dong Tien Secondary School (main school point), Dong Tien Kindergarten and Dong Tien Elementary School, causing students to be absent from school.
Faced with the above situation, the locality has proposed that functional agencies and Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee consider upgrading and improving the road surface leading to schools. In addition, the locality also proposed that competent authorities consider investing in and upgrading the pumping station, increasing capacity to speed up drainage, limit prolonged flooding, affecting teaching and learning activities" - Mr. Quang said.
