With only a few days left, students across the country will officially enter the new school year. The atmosphere of preparation for the school opening day is bustling, as students complete the last tasks before returning to class.
For final year students, the new school year brings more pressure as they have to prepare for important exams. Defining goals, reviewing knowledge and building a suitable study schedule is emphasized by many students right from the beginning of the year.
Year-end students proactively prepare
As a final year student, Nguyen Minh Anh - a 12th grade student in Hanoi - said that this school year is important, so she spends the last days of the holiday to rearrange her study schedule and determine goals for the high school graduation exam.
According to Minh Anh, before, she often tended to study based on inspiration, spending more time on her favorite subjects. However, entering the final school year, she determined that she needed to allocate time more evenly and prioritize subjects to serve the purpose of university admission.
I am trying to rebuild the schedule, which sessions to study which subjects and how to spend time resting. I also review the knowledge parts that are not certain so that when the new school year comes, I can keep up with the progress of the teachers" - Minh Anh shared.
For Do Hoang Tuan - a 9th grade student in Hanoi, the new school year is also a special journey as this is the final year of secondary school. The male student said that he is focusing on consolidating knowledge of the main subjects, and also learning about the entrance exam to 10th grade in advance.
I see that 9th grade has many changes compared to previous years, especially the need to determine goals after graduating from secondary school. I want to prepare early so as not to be pressured when the exam is approaching" - Tuan said.
According to Tuan, before entering the new school year, he proactively reviewed the weak knowledge parts, reviewed each content instead of studying intensively and spent reasonable rest time.

Lower-grade students focus on creating a habit of learning
Meanwhile, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Linh - an 8th grade student in Hanoi - shared that what she cares about most before the new school year is getting used to the learning pace after a long break.
Linh plans to prepare books and school supplies early and adjust sleep and wake-up hours. The female student also sets a goal to be more proactive in learning, instead of waiting until the teacher assigns homework to start doing it.
I want to be more self-disciplined this year, especially in doing homework and preparing lessons before going to class. I think if I can maintain the habit right from the beginning of the year, then at the end of the year I will be less accustomed to homework" - Linh shared.
Teachers should not create pressure right from the beginning of the year
From the teacher's perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thien Huong - Vice Principal of Uy No Primary and Secondary School (in charge of Uy No Secondary School Branch, Hanoi) - believes that students need to prepare both knowledge, lifestyle and psychology before the new school year.
According to Ms. Huong, final-grade students should identify goals early but not turn goals into pressure. Students can break down the plan into smaller phases, prioritizing consolidating basic knowledge and maintaining a stable learning pace.
The most important thing is that students need to form a stable learning rhythm right from the beginning of the year. Students should not wait until the exam is near to speed up, but they also do not need to study too hard. Maintaining regularity, allocating reasonable time and proactively asking teachers when they do not understand the lesson will help them make more sustainable progress" - Ms. Huong shared.
For lower-grade students, the beginning of the school year is a suitable time to form the habit of preparing lessons, taking notes, completing tasks on time and actively exchanging with teachers.
Ms. Huong said that each student has different goals, but building a suitable plan and maintaining a stable learning pace will help them be more proactive when entering the new school year.
