Overcoming inadequacies on the Western Pleiku bypass after the passenger car overturning accident

Gia Lai - After the passenger car overturning accident occurred, provincial functional agencies will advise and urge to accelerate the completion of the bypass to synchronously connect National Highway 19.

Early completion of bypass route and installation of traffic signs

On September 2nd, Hung Vuong Gia Lai Hospital continued to treat and care for 2 patients. In addition to some people being discharged, severe cases were transferred to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.

Representatives of the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Construction said that the Tay Pleiku bypass (about 15 km long) is invested by Project Management Board 2 (under the Ministry of Construction).

Along with upgrading and expanding National Highway 19 (total investment of 3,600 billion VND), Project Management Board 2 also proceeded to open the Western Pleiku bypass and An Khe bypass, to help vehicles not have to move into crowded urban areas, causing traffic congestion.

Mr. Ha Anh Thai - Deputy Director of Gia Lai Provincial Department of Construction - said: "The bypass has not yet completed some items such as: drainage ditches, mud drainage, and sign system.

The lighting system is not included in the investment item of the project, but it is also necessary to consider and adjust it for the bypass.

According to records, the bypass route mainly passes through agricultural production areas of local people. Residential areas are deserted, with many sections intersecting with people's roads and spontaneous roads.

Along with rain and fog obscuring visibility, drivers when traveling through bypasses, if they do not pay attention to observation and slow down, can easily lead to accidents.

Prevention of similar incidents

In September 2026, Project Management Board 2 is still constructing and completing the remaining items, and at the same time resolving voters' petitions regarding land compensation and site clearance dossiers.

Mr. Le Ngoc Nam - representative of Project Management Board 2 - said: "The unit will urgently urge and accelerate the construction progress of the remaining items on the Western Pleiku bypass, to synchronously connect with National Highway 19 connecting two major cities, Quy Nhon and Pleiku".

After completion, the investor will sit down with consulting and inspection units and the Provincial Department of Construction to discuss and exchange to move towards handing over the road to local management according to regulations.

In addition to the Tay Pleiku bypass, the Provincial Department of Construction will also advise the Provincial People's Committee to manage and closely supervise a number of other roads that are being completed, not yet put into operation, to ensure safety for people and vehicles.
