For high schools, the plan is to focus on merging units with fewer than 18 classes with neighboring schools, in order to form larger-scale facilities.
The distance from the branch to the main school is no more than 20 km. Schools with fewer than 18 classes but far from other units are expected to be converted into ethnic minority boarding secondary and high schools.

With the continuing education and vocational education systems, after arrangement, the whole province still has 23 vocational education and continuing education centers.
It is expected that 12 centers will be converted into vocational high schools when the Ministry of Education and Training has guidance.
Colleges and vocational secondary schools under the Department of Education and Training shall implement according to the projects approved by the Provincial People's Committee.


After arrangement, Phu Tho still has 136 educational institutions, a decrease of 22 units, equivalent to 13.9%. In which, the high school block decreased by 9/100 units, equivalent to 9%; the group of continuing education centers, vocational education - continuing education and vocational education - university - university - university decreased by 10/33 units, equivalent to 30.3%.
Vocational education block decreased by 3/5 units, equivalent to 60%.
Specifically, specialized high schools, ethnic minority boarding schools and specialized education schools will retain 20 schools.
At the summary conference of the 2025-2026 school year held on August 22, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Khac Hieu said that the 2026-2027 school year plays an important role in the process of shifting from stable organization after consolidation to improving the quality of the entire system.
Provincial leaders requested the education sector and localities to quickly consolidate the apparatus, select management officials with sufficient capacity, and at the same time strengthen financial management, assets, land and rationally organize schools, classes, and school sites.
According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Hieu, the arrangement process must ensure fairness, improve management efficiency and resource utilization, not create management gaps, not disrupt operations or affect students' learning rights.
