Learn how to handle situations that arise
Recently, a series of incidents, from child abuse to teachers behaving inappropriately at school, have caused public outrage. Many people have expressed doubts about the ethics, dignity and professional skills of a number of young teachers today.
When reading the stories and people's reactions, Nguyen Huong Giang - a third-year student at the Faculty of Literature Pedagogy, Hanoi National University of Education, felt a bit down.
“The behavior of many teachers is unethical and needs to be dealt with clearly. However, the comments questioning the profession I am pursuing make me feel quite sad because they are equating young teachers. This can cause parents to have an unfavorable view of young teachers, even pedagogical students,” Huong Giang worried.
From the real story, the female student also learned a lesson for herself. “In addition to studying to improve professional knowledge, we need to learn behavioral skills and ethical standards in the school environment,” said Huong Giang.
Sharing about this issue, Ms. Pham Thi Hang - Literature teacher, Kim Lien High School (Nghe An) said: “Young teachers often bring a breath of fresh air to the classroom with creative, flexible teaching methods that are close to the new generation of students. They have the ability to quickly adapt to changes in the curriculum, know how to take advantage of online learning platforms, interactive teaching tools and digital lecture methods. However, young teachers who have just graduated do not have much practical experience, so they need to cultivate and know how to handle situations that arise in class, communicate skillfully with students because they have different and diverse personalities. Teachers need to be attentive, flexible in communication, demonstrate professionalism, dedication, listen and share with each student”.
According to Ms. Hang, with the combination of professional capacity, soft skills and a spirit of enthusiasm and progress, young teachers can overcome challenges, while contributing to improving the quality of education and nurturing future generations of students.
What is the ethical standard of a teacher?
With more than 20 years of experience in teaching, Ms. Pham Thi Hang concluded that the ethical standards of teachers are demonstrated in communication with students, parents, colleagues, schools, etc., and in the standards when delivering lectures to students. This is a task that any teacher needs to master and practice.
“To educate students well, teachers themselves must truly love their profession, have passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to the teaching profession. Responsibility and love are extremely important factors in the teaching process. More importantly, the skills to solve and handle pedagogical situations in the educational environment in general and in the classroom in particular. With the characteristics of each age group and the personality of each student. The behavior of a teacher must meet the requirements of pedagogical ethics standards, while smoothly combining the personal color of each teacher,” Ms. Hang confided.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters about the requirements in pedagogical expertise and ethical standards of a teacher, Associate Professor Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy - former Principal of Hanoi Pedagogical University - affirmed: "First of all, a teacher must be a good model of conduct and ethics for students to follow. Then, there must be a convergence of virtue and talent to be able to impart the best knowledge to generations of students."
In particular, teacher training needs to be focused on. Currently, teachers are not simply people who stand in class to impart basic knowledge to students, but also need to organize, manage, and advise in the classroom. Teachers need to have the ability to think and be creative to help students absorb knowledge and practice well.
"In addition to professional skills, teachers must have life skills to be able to interact and quickly resolve situations that arise with students and their families. A harmonious, reasonable approach, exchange, and handling can avoid unnecessary situations" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy analyzed.
