On July 16, Dak Lak Department of Education and Training informed about the inadequacies in the enrollment of 10th grade public high schools in the 2026 - 2027 school year and solutions to overcome them.
At the beginning of July, the Department announced the admission benchmark scores for public high schools. However, many candidates with quite high admission scores were still not admitted because they did not pass the first wish, while the schools registering for the second wish have recruited enough quotas.
Faced with this reality, the education sector has added 584 targets and continues to organize supplementary enrollment with more than 2,700 targets to meet the learning needs of students.
Supplementary enrollment makes many parents confused. Many families have completed admission procedures for their children at Phu Xuan Primary, Secondary and High School (private school) but then withdrew their applications to register for admission to public schools. However, many parents are still worried because they do not know if their children will be admitted or not.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Da - Deputy Director of Dak Lak Department of Education and Training - said that the number of students registering for 10th grade this year has increased, creating great pressure for enrollment work. Schools must balance the teaching staff, facilities, student reception capacity and streaming requirements to determine appropriate targets.
According to Mr. Da, the additional enrollment stems from the fact that many students have been admitted to public schools but have not completed admission procedures on time, leading to a shortage of targets.
If after this enrollment period, schools still do not enroll enough, we will continue to supplement flexible quotas to ensure students' right to study," Mr. Da said.
The Department of Education and Training also said that it will seriously learn from experience and overcome inadequacies so that the 10th grade enrollment work in the coming years can be organized more effectively.
Mr. Truong Cong Thai - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee - requested the education sector to put students' learning rights first.
Do not let students be left alone, without schools. This is a responsibility in state management. This situation has been repeated for many years, we cannot just learn from experience but must clearly recognize shortcomings to overcome them," Mr. Thai emphasized.
According to the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, if there is only a general explanation without specific solutions, it will be difficult to create consensus and continue to cause frustration among parents and society.
Mr. Thai said that Dak Lak currently spends about 36% of total budget expenditure on education, but the quality of education in the province is still in the low group compared to the national average.
Therefore, the education sector needs to innovate management methods in a proactive and flexible direction, both ensuring that all students have the opportunity to go to school and gradually improving the quality of education.
