According to the Department of Education and Training (GDDT) of Ho Chi Minh City, this year's entrance exam for grade 10 will increase the area of application, following the orientation of assessing students' abilities, closely following the requirements and goals of assessing students' abilities of the new program.
For the Literature exam, the Department said the exam structure includes 2 parts: Reading and understanding literary documents and writing encourage ment (5 points); Reading and understanding luan or information documents and writing essay (5 points). In particular, the reading materials will be outside textbooks, with a length of no more than 1,300 words.
Mr. Cao Duc Khoa - Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1) said that the change in exam questions this year is certain, so students need to clearly understand the changes in exam questions that have been announced by the Department of Education and Training.
In particular, for Literature, when language will be outside textbooks, this forces students to prepare for language sources in life.
"In particular, students should not study a closet, because the 2018 Education Program cannot study a closet," Mr. Khoa emphasized.
Teacher Vo Kim Bao - Literature teacher at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1) said that the language of the Literature exam not included in current textbooks helps to study literature and teach literature more realistically, while at the same time testing to more accurately reflect the abilities and qualities of learners.
"Students need to proactively read more documents with the same genre they have studied to gain more practical experience. This year's exam has 2 materials, so the "coverage" of the exam is quite high. Students avoid guessing questions and studying in groups during the learning process, thereby building a more suitable learning plan," emphasized teacher Bao.
Teacher Bao noted that with the literary argumentation section, there are only 2 points left with the requirement of writing a paragraph (previously 4 points, the requirement to write a complete essay). Students need to equip themselves with careful homework skills.
The social argumentation section (the section with the most points) will have 2 types of papers that can be written: Experimentation on a life issue or opinion on an issue that needs to be solved.
In this part, students can refer to the ideas of the papers written in 2 types of papers in previous years' papers ( papers on an idea, morality and papers on an event, a phenomenon in life) but need to know how to choose because the skills, techniques and requirements of the papers are different.
In 2024, out of more than 98,000 candidates taking the exam, statistics show that no candidate has a score of 10 in Literature, the highest exam is 9.5 points. There are more than 87,000 students who have achieved above 5 scores, accounting for about 88.3%. The most common score is 7.
The entrance exam for grade 10 public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes). Candidates taking the entrance exam to a specialized school or an integrated class will take an additional exam in a specialized subject or an integrated subject (150 minutes).
The exam has 76,435 candidates registered to take the exam. The total enrollment target of public high schools is 70,070 students.
