Reader D. T. H asked: How is the floor score in university admissions calculated? Based on 3 high school graduation exam subjects, 3 subjects in the admission combination or choosing any 3 of 4 exam subjects?
The Ministry of Education and Training answers this issue on the Government Electronic Information Portal as follows:
The floor score (input quality assurance threshold) in university admissions is determined based on the total score of 3 subjects according to the admission combination, not any 3 subjects in 4 exam subjects.

Based on Clause 3, Article 6 of the Regulation issued together with Circular No. 06/2026/TT-BGDDT of the Minister of Education and Training: "The source for admission to the university training program is candidates with a total score of 03 subjects in the high school graduation exam... according to the admission combination... reaching at least 15.00 points on a 30-point scale...".
Thus, the floor score is calculated from 3 subjects in the admission combination that candidates register, not randomly choosing 3 out of 4 graduation exam subjects. These combinations must be suitable for the entry requirements of the training program.
For some specialized majors, the determination of the floor score is also specifically regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training. Specifically, according to Clause 1, Article 9 of Circular No. 06/2026/TT-BGDĐT:
The Minister of Education and Training stipulates the entry threshold for teacher training majors;
The Ministry of Education and Training coordinates with relevant ministries to regulate input thresholds for the health sector with practicing licenses and the legal sector.
