At the press conference in August 2026, held on the morning of August 25, representatives of the Department of Education and Training of Dong Thap province said that the merger of public preschool, general education, continuing education and vocational education institutions has achieved breakthrough results. From 1,075 schools as of July 1, 2025, the provincial education network is now shortened to only 375 schools. The reduction of 700 institutions (equivalent to 65.1%) shows the local government's great determination to streamline the apparatus. In which, preschool levels reduced by 237 schools (remaining 102 schools); general education levels reduced by 456 schools (remaining 265 schools).
For the vocational and continuing education block, a major step has just been made when the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 2336/QD-BGDDT (dated August 7, 2026) merging Tien Giang Medical College into Dong Thap Medical College.
In addition, the Provincial People's Committee has also submitted to competent authorities for approval the Project on merging intermediate schools: Go Cong, Cai Lay, Cai Be into Tien Giang College; and at the same time merging Hong Ngu, Thanh Binh, Thap Muoi intermediate schools into Dong Thap Community College.
