Parents still have a heavy burden of tuition fees, studying outside of school
Although the tuition exemption policy is being implemented, many parents still have to bear the costs arising from their children's education such as boarding fees, English learning, overtime care and skill clubs. In reality, the monthly education cost of families is still high, especially in urban areas, due to the increasing demand for learning, caring for and developing skills for students.
Parents admit that affiliated programs and extracurricular activities bring certain benefits, but the spending is not small and is not commensurate with the expectations of quality in some content. Many families said that even though they are exempted from tuition fees, their children's total education expenses have not decreased significantly, because fees other than tuition continue to account for a large proportion.
Data from the Statistics Office shows that the average cost of education and training for a person going to school has increased sharply, from about 7 million VND in 2022 to 9.5 million VND in 2024. See more...

Sharply reduce the administrative apparatus and principals after merging educational institutions
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the arrangement and merger of educational institutions must be carried out carefully, with a clear roadmap, without machinery and absolutely not interrupt teaching activities or affect the rights of students. The core goal is to improve the efficiency of education management and quality, not to chase the target of reducing schools, reducing focal points at all costs, nor to use the criteria of financial autonomy as a basis for arranging or dissolving schools.

According to the assessment of the Ministry of Education and Training, the initial merger has brought about clear results when streamlining the administrative apparatus, significantly reducing the number of principals, accountants, treasurers, and administrative staff; thereby saving regular spending and focusing resources on professional activities. The team of teachers and staff has been reasonably arranged, gradually overcoming the local shortage of teachers in some localities.
However, the Ministry of Education and Training also pointed out many limitations arising from the rush to merge, such as some schools with a scale exceeding the standards, the number of vice principals exceeding the norm, some schools even have 9 vice principals. See more...
Avoid confusion when banning the use of the words "national", "international" to name universities
The Ministry of Education and Training proposes to ban the use of the words "national", "international", "Vietnam", " International", "National", "State"... when naming universities to restore order and standards in the higher education system. This proposal is supported by many opinions because in reality, there are many schools that claim to be international, while the training model, teaching staff and teaching quality are not commensurate, easily causing misunderstanding to learners.
The label "international" is considered an effective form of PR, causing parents and students to expect a degree with global value. However, when entering the labor market, employers are more interested in real capacity than name, leading to disappointment for learners if the training quality does not meet. Therefore, banning the use of names that are easily confusing is considered necessary to avoid dismissing the concept and protecting learners.
The Ministry of Education and Training also proposes not to combine Vietnamese with foreign languages in the school's name, requiring the name to be standard, meaningful and equivalent between Vietnamese and foreign languages, not "enhancing" the form compared to the real one. See more...
