For the first time, public teachers receive Tet bonus for the 13th month's salary.
Many schools across the country have completed the 2026 Lunar New Year bonus payment for officials, teachers, and employees according to Decree 73/2024/ND-CP. Many teachers are happy to receive a Tet bonus equivalent to one month's salary for the first time, in some places ranging from about 9-16 million VND, depending on the level of task completion and how each school spends.

According to the sharing of teachers and school leaders, before Decree 73 took effect, public school teachers hardly had Tet bonuses, only received small value gifts. Since the application of the new policy, bonuses have been considered according to evaluation results, no egalitarian spending, calculated for the whole year of the solar calendar and considered as "13th month salary", creating excitement and recognition of teachers' efforts after a year of work.
Decree 73 stipulates that the annual bonus fund is equal to 10% of the total salary fund (excluding allowances), separate from the emulation and commendation fund, so the bonus level varies between schools and individuals. From January 1, 2026, when the Law on Teachers and the National Assembly's Resolution on specific mechanisms and policies for education take effect, teachers and school staff have high expectations for improved income and living standards. Accordingly, public preschool and general education teachers are entitled to a minimum occupational preferential allowance of 70%, school staff at least 30%, and teachers in particularly difficult, border, and island areas are entitled to 100%. The Law on Teachers also stipulates that teachers' salaries are ranked highest in the administrative and non-business salary scale system.
