Minister Nguyen Kim Son: In the near future, there will only be 3 - 4 pedagogical colleges
At the National Assembly Standing Committee meeting on December 4, the Government presented the revisation of draft laws related to education, notably the regulation allowing some universities to train at college level but only in specific fields such as arts, sports, teacher training and national defense and security. This is to ensure that educational institutions operate in accordance with their functions and training orientations.
Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee Phan Van Mai agreed with the opening of college training at a number of universities, but emphasized the need for management with strict criteria and standards. He said that many specific majors such as music and sports need to detect and nurture talents early, so universities with good capacity and facilities should be given the opportunity to implement this model.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the upcoming planning of the pedagogical college system will be streamlined, with only 3-4 schools remaining, the remaining pedagogical colleges will be merged into pedagogical universities. Reasons for stopping the review of the C00 complex in 15 majors of universities in Hanoi
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) plans to enroll students in 2026 with 28 existing training majors and open 2 new majors, Human Resources Administration and Multimedia Communications, raising the total target to 2,800. According to the new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the school will apply 3 major changes: only admit the combinations D01, D14, D15, DD2, D04, D06 and C00; eliminate the combinations C03, C04 and X78; English or Literature subject is multiplied by a coefficient of 2 to ensure that the general subject accounts for at least 50% of the total score.
The biggest change is the tightening of the C00 group: Only 15 majors are admitted according to C00 instead of 26 majors as in 2025. The school said that reducing the number of admission combinations is to focus on suitable subjects, ensuring that each major does not exceed 4 combinations, thereby improving input quality and meeting the requirements of the training program.
