Every day, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc, a preschool teacher in Thanh Hoa, spends an average of 10 - 12 hours on work at school.
Ms. Ngoc's class is for 5-year-olds, with nearly 30 children and 2 teachers in charge. Due to the psychological characteristics of this age group, Ms. Ngoc has to regularly organize activities such as singing, dancing,...
"At the age of over 50, there are times when I am exhausted, but I have to try. Sometimes I am so tired that I have to ask the assistant teacher for help. When I get home, I just rest, I don't have the energy to do other things" - Ms. Ngoc shared.
From her own experience, Ms. Ngoc believes that after the age of 50, preschool teachers face many health problems such as vision, hearing, and memory, which affect the quality of their teaching, especially for preschoolers.
Ms. Trinh Thi Vinh, former Principal of Hien Luong Kindergarten, Phu Tho, also said that education is a special field, from 50-55 years old, teachers have to work very hard and try hard.
The older the teacher, the more difficult it is to impart knowledge, causing students to suffer many disadvantages.
"For preschool students, they always want to be led by young, dynamic teachers. Older teachers who are waiting to retire cannot meet the requirements of agility, creativity or appearance," Ms. Vinh shared.
Therefore, Ms. Vinh, Ms. Ngoc and many other teachers all wish to reduce their retirement age to 55 years old.
In fact, reducing the retirement age for preschool teachers is not the first time it has been proposed. When drafting the Law on Teachers, the Ministry of Education and Training made a proposal related to the retirement age of teachers.
Accordingly, teachers in preschools can retire at a lower age but not more than 5 years earlier than the regulation and will not have their pension rate deducted due to early retirement.
Teachers with the title of professor, associate professor or doctoral degree and teachers working in specific specialized fields and sectors are entitled to retirement benefits at an older age.
The retirement regime at an older age is implemented when the educational institution has a need, the teacher is healthy enough, and volunteers. When implementing the retirement regime at an older age, the teacher does not hold a leadership or management position and is not allowed to retain the leadership position allowance. The working time when retiring at an older age is not more than 5 years for teachers with a doctoral degree, not more than 7 years for teachers with the title of associate professor, not more than 10 years for teachers with the title of professor.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the retirement policy is specifically designed to meet the characteristics of professional activities, while promoting the intelligence and experience of teachers.
