Since the beginning of this month, the Ninh Binh provincial education sector has been piloting students at 69 secondary and high schools in the area to study 5 days/week.
Mr. Dinh Van Kham - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Binh province said that among the 69 pilot schools this time, there are 51 secondary schools and 18 high schools.
The pilot period is from February 3, 2025 to February 28, 2025, at the end of the above period, schools will organize assessments, learn from experience and have reports and proposals to the Department of Education and Training and the Departments of Education and Training of districts and cities.
Phu Tho province also selected 14 high schools and 22 secondary schools to pilot the organization of 5 days a week, starting from semester II.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho, schools piloting the organization of teaching 5 days/week and Saturday off must have the consensus and consent of the school's management staff, teachers, staff, students, and parents; ensure correct and sufficient implementation of the content of the official curriculum according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Previously, a series of schools in Khanh Hoa, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Bac Ninh, Yen Bai... had students have Saturday off.
Localities all consider that the pilot implementation of organizing teaching and learning 5 days/week (including teaching subjects, organizing educational activities during and outside of school hours) to let students have Saturdays off should not overload students and teachers. Thereby, contributing to improving the quality and efficiency of education at the school.
In addition, an additional day off per week is also to create conditions for teachers and students to have time to self-study, self-education, and participate in community and social activities.
Meanwhile, the localities of Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Thanh Hoa plan to let students study 5 sessions a week, with Saturday off in the coming time.
Many teachers support giving students a day off on Saturdays because if they have an extra day off during the week, students will have more time to play and entertain, and teachers will have time to rest and prepare well for the lesson before starting the new school week.
However, teachers all think that, to have a day off from teaching and learning on Saturday, it is necessary to calculate whether reducing the study program from 6 days to 5 days will increase pressure on students, increase lessons in the session or not.
