The trend of using IELTS certificates in university admissions has appeared since 2017 and is becoming more and more popular. In recent years, about 100 universities from the economic, technical, medical and pharmaceutical sectors to the police and military have applied this admission form.
In the 2025 enrollment season, many top universities will maintain their IELTS, TOEFL or Japanese and Korean language certificates. But the way each school converts scores is different.
According to the announcement of the schools in 2025, the current conversion rate of scores is recorded to range from 6 to 10 points in English, depending on the IELTS certificate score.
Most schools currently require a minimum IELTS of 5.0 when considering admission in 2025.
For example, the National Economics University and Thang Long University have quite high requirements. Candidates with IELTS 5.5 are converted to 8 points, from 7.5 or higher to reach a score of 10.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology stipulates that candidates with VSTEP English certificate or international English certificate such as IELTS can convert it into English subject scores when considering admission based on high school graduation exam scores (combined A01, D01, D04, D07); and add bonus points when considering admission based on talent admission methods, admission based on private assessment test scores.
Specific conversion rates are IELTS 5.0 equivalent to 8.5 points, IELTS 5.5 equivalent to 9 points, IELTS 6.0 equivalent to 9.5 points, IELTS from 6.5 or higher with a maximum score of 10. The lowest bonus score is IELTS 5.0 with 1 point (on a 100 scale) and IELTS with 7 points.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture accepts IELTS from 4.0, equivalent to 6 points. If they achieve IELTS 6.0 or higher, candidates will be converted to 10 points when considering admission based on high school graduation exam scores...
