On June 19, information from Dr. Le Van Tuong Lan - Head of the Department of Training and Student Affairs of Hue University, completed the re-evaluation of the doctoral thesis of Ms. Le Thi An Hoa, Head of the Scientific Research Department of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, after reflecting on plagiarism.
According to him, each member of the review council directly read, analyzed the content of the thesis, and sent an individual review report to the Chairman of the council.
After that, these conclusions were compiled and officially reported to Hue University, clarifying the level of plagiarism outside the 12 pages that had been previously determined to have violated.
The report has been sent by Hue University to the Ministry of Education and Training on the conclusion of Ms. Hoa's doctoral thesis on whether there is a plagiarism or not, and a proposed handling plan.
"However, this issue needs to be considered and handled by the ministry according to the correct process, so we cannot provide the content of the conclusion but have to wait for the response from the Ministry of Education and Training" - Mr. Lan said.
Mr. Lan said that the re-evaluation process is complicated and time-consuming because each page of the thesis must be carefully read and the content must be compared in detail.
"After completing the conclusion, Hue University sent all of the above content to the Ministry of Education and Training on June 16. It is likely that the Ministry will have an answer soon. After the Ministry responds, we will base on that conclusion to take the next steps" - Mr. Lan said.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published a series of articles reflecting violations in the doctoral thesis "History of Vietnam: The process of formation, development and transformation of royal festivals in Hue from 1802 to 1945" defended at Hue University on March 23, 2018, by graduate student Le Thi An Hoa.
Based on the Decision of the Director of Hue University on regulations on academic integrity, Ms. Hoa's thesis was determined to violate plagiarism. Many verses and ideas overlap with other works without citing the source, with a total of 12 violating pages.
On December 10, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued Official Letter No. 7828, stating that it had received Official Letter No. 1908/2024 dated November 25, 2024 from Hue University reporting the results of handling the complaint.
The Ministry of Education and Training requested Hue University to re-evaluate the content of Ms. Le Thi An Hoa's thesis and determine the form of disciplinary action. In case the thesis does not meet the requirements of a doctoral thesis, Hue University needs to consider the responsibility of the council that approved the thesis. The deadline for reporting the results to the Ministry of Education and Training is before January 31, 2025.
