12th grade student leads global malware ring, personally collapsing the future

Lê Thanh Phong |

A 12th grade student in Thanh Hoa programmed malware, colluded to form a line and spread it globally, invading more than 94,000 computers.

The incident is a wake-up call for a young generation who are able to access technology very early, but lack a directional support.

Em N.V.X self-studied programming from 2023, and by 2024 had written code to steal cookies, passwords, browser data and passed basic protection classes.

That shows that X is very good, learns technology knowledge very quickly, but unfortunately, he has gone the wrong way.

Technology is inherently neutral, programming is not a crime, but when knowledge is led by greed, it immediately becomes a dangerous tool.

N.V.X and the group of subjects led by X have developed into a transnational malware distribution network, targeting social media accounts, especially the Facebook platform with advertising functions, where stolen data can be quickly converted into money.

Here, the issue is no longer "childish youth", but organizing a line, calculated, with a clear purpose of profiteering.

A 12th grade student who knows how to collude, divide roles, exploit data and make money from illegal acts, then it is no longer a spontaneous mistake but a criminal act.

What is even more regrettable is that the participants in this ring are all very young, knowledgeable, and skilled, such as Le Thanh Cong (born 1998), Phan Xuan Anh (born 2005).

If they go in the right direction, these young people can completely become technology engineers. But because of greed for money, they have chosen a path that they understand very well as "technology criminals".

The price to pay is not just a few years in prison, it is a black mark in personal records, it is shrinking career opportunities, it is a loss of trust from family and society.

And from this case, the issue raised is the role of the family in educating and orienting children.

A child participating in illegal activities in cyberspace, making a lot of money, parents need to be vigilant and monitor to prevent them in time.

The educational environment, from family to school, is for young people to understand that society needs people who are good at technology, but society needs more than those who are good and responsible.

Young people who are passionate about technology need to realize that in the digital age, a line of code can create value but can also destroy many values.

Therefore, chasing after criminal money is self-constructing the future.
