Can't wait for the announcement
According to an update from Lao Dong Newspaper, after the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued a Circular on regulations for junior high school and high school admissions, provinces and cities have begun to announce the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Currently, nearly 10 provinces and cities have provided information about this subject, many places have "finalized" the English subject. This makes students in Hanoi restless.
Since the beginning of grade 9, Pham Phuong Linh, a student at a secondary school in Hoan Kiem district (Hanoi), has hardly had dinner before 9 p.m. because of her busy schedule of extra classes. The pressure of choosing a school, combined with the fact that the third subject has not been announced, has doubled the pressure on the female student.
"Every month we have to take a test, and before we finish this round we are already preparing for the next round. The continuous exams make us always stressed and tired. I hope the third exam will be announced soon so we can focus on reviewing and not be spread out too much like now" - Phuong Linh confided.
Sharing the same anxiety about the third exam, Nguyen The Phuc - a 9th grade student at Dong Da Secondary School (Hanoi) - said that students, families and teachers are all waiting for information every day. The male student expressed his hope that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will choose Foreign Language as the subject, which is familiar, necessary and suitable for the current integration context.
"The third exam should be announced early so that we can study and review effectively and not be under too much pressure. This way, we can balance our review time and absorb a fair amount of knowledge from the remaining subjects in class. Announcing the third exam late puts a lot of pressure on us," said The Phuc.
The whole family is stressed.
The race to enter grade 10 of high school in big cities like Hanoi not only puts pressure on students and teachers but also makes those who accompany the students tired.
This year, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu (Ba Dinh district, Hanoi) has a child taking the 10th grade entrance exam. She said: "To prepare for the exam, the family is always as tense as a bowstring, worrying to the point of losing sleep. I hope that everything related to the exam should be widely publicized, decided quickly, and announced early so that the children will have less trouble. An exam that is already stressful and constantly changing makes many families with children in grade 9 feel extremely tired."
With the news that a series of provinces and cities have announced a third exam subject for grade 10, parents of students in Hanoi are even more anxious.
"We hope that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will soon announce the third exam subject. This will help students have time to prepare thoroughly. Besides, what students and parents need most is stability. We sincerely want to receive consistent exam regulations, announced from the beginning of the school year and stable for many years. Students also need to be guided on how to study and take exams scientifically, and should not let exams become a great pressure, affecting their health and spirit," said Ms. Thu.
Need to create initiative
In order to create initiative for students, many educational institutions have been proactive in teaching and reviewing for exams, helping students be ready to respond to all situations.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung - Vice Principal of M.V. Lomonosov Secondary and High School (Hanoi) - said that the school does not focus on any particular subject. However, the general psychology of students, parents, and teachers is to hope that the exam subjects will be announced soon, so that students have a certain amount of time to review in depth and achieve good results. She also advised parents and students not to worry too much, causing pressure, affecting the quality of study and health.
Many teachers who are teaching and reviewing for 9th and 10th graders also advise students to do well in their studies, balancing between studying, resting and entertaining. Families should absolutely not put pressure on their children to avoid affecting their psychology.
