The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is reviewing to determine the public 10th grade enrollment target for the new school year.
Accordingly, the department will base on the material conditions and teaching staff to determine the enrollment quota for each public high school, not based on the orientation of students after secondary school as in previous years.
However, the department said that this year, public high schools may recruit at least 70% of secondary school graduates, 65% higher than last year.
However, many students are still worried, because the opportunity to have a place to study in public high schools is only once. If they are not admitted, they will have to study at continuing education centers, vocational schools, private schools, etc.
Nguyen Hoang Quan, a 9th grade student in District 1, said that he has a relatively busy schedule, because in addition to the 2-day schedule at school from Monday to Friday, Hoang Quan also attends extra classes.
In which, participate in an additional Math class at the center (2 sessions/week), study with a teacher at home with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English, each subject 2 sessions/week.
Hoang Quan plans to register for the Math exam to attend the specialized class of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
Nguyen Xuan Quang, a 9th grade student in Binh Tan District, said that he plans to place his first wish at An Lac High School.
Although he planned to apply for a school with a rather low benchmark score, the male student still expressed concern, because "it could still fail".
"I have been quite negligent in my studies in recent years, and only a few months before the exam have I focused more on studying. I am worried that if I do not pass the entrance exam to a public school, I will have to study at a continuing education center because the tuition fee at a private school is too high," Xuan Quang said.

Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has also announced a draft enrollment plan for first-level classes in the 2025-2026 school year.
According to the draft, this year students will be able to register for a maximum of 8 wishes, including 3 regular 10th grade wishes; 2 specialized 10th grade wishes and 3 integrated 10th grade wishes.
The admission method is carried out in 2 forms: entrance exam and selection.
In which, the admission method is conducted in 2 phases:
Phase 1: students register for 3 priority options 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 public high schools (except for Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City National University for Energy.
Phase 2: Depending on the actual situation of the application set at high schools and the needs of high schools, the Department of Education and Training decides on additional enrollment and has documents guiding the implementation to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of enrolling enough enrollment quotas for schools that still lack many quotas.
Students are not allowed to change their prospects after the time allowed to adjust their prospects and after the admission results.
