Proposal for highest teacher salary
On August 12, 2024, the Politburo issued Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW to continue implementing Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW, dated November 4, 2013 of the 11th Party Central Committee "On fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training (ET), meeting the requirements of industrialization and modernization in the context of a socialist-oriented market economy and international integration".
In Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo, nine tasks and solutions were set out, in which the Politburo requested to focus on reviewing, amending, supplementing, and perfecting mechanisms, policies, and laws on education and training, removing bottlenecks, including the need to soon develop the Law on Teachers, the Law on Lifelong Learning, the Education Development Strategy, and regulations on innovation in education and training management, and school governance in a scientific, modern, synchronous, and interconnected direction.
Currently, in addition to the basic salary of civil servants in general, teachers have seniority allowances and teaching allowances. In addition, teachers working in particularly difficult areas also have special attraction and support policies.
According to some teachers, although the proposal to give teachers the highest salary has been continuously mentioned in forums and included in the Draft Law on Teachers, this has not yet been put into practice.
Salary increase - joy for millions of teachers
Sharing her views on the issue of teachers' salaries, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nham - a teacher at Trang An Primary School (Quang Ninh) said that teachers expect the salary policy to be approved so that teachers can feel secure in their profession.
“Currently, the salary policy and benefits for teachers are still being mentioned in the Draft Law on Teachers. Most teachers really hope that the National Assembly will pass the Draft Law on Teachers. Only then can the dream of teachers' salaries being ranked highest in the administrative career salary scale system come true,” said Ms. Nham.
Ms. Nham said that currently, the whole country has millions of teachers at all levels. If the salary increase becomes a reality, this will be a great gift for teachers in 2025.
Not only Ms. Nham, Ms. Tran Huong Mai - an elementary school teacher in Ly Nhan district (Ha Nam) also hopes that in 2025, the salary and allowance regime will be higher so that teachers will have more motivation to stick with the profession. Witnessing many colleagues participating in teaching and having to work outside, Ms. Mai understands the hardships of her colleagues even more.
According to Ms. Mai, although the basic salary of teachers has increased significantly since July 2024, in reality, the salary still cannot meet the needs of life.
“Many colleagues confided to me that their salaries were not enough to live on, so they had to do many jobs at the same time. The issue of the highest salary had been discussed many years ago, but it had not been completed yet.
Recently, the increase in basic salary has also helped teachers have more motivation to contribute, but it still seems to be incomplete. Therefore, teachers all hope that this year, the dream of the highest salary increase will quickly come true. Perhaps, millions of teachers across the country will be very happy" - Ms. Mai expressed.
