Vietnam striker Nguyen Xuan Son suffered a serious injury in the 34th minute of the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final against Thailand on January 5. He was immediately taken off the field and taken to a hospital in Thailand by ambulance. The Vietnamese striker was diagnosed with a broken leg and will need a long time to recover.

Notably, Nguyen Xuan Son's hospital bills in Thailand were paid by the President of the country's Football Federation, Madam Pang.

After being hospitalized in Thailand and receiving initial treatment, striker Nguyen Xuan Son has returned to Vietnam with his team and had a successful surgery at Vinmec Hospital last night (January 6).

The consultation results showed that the striker of the Vietnamese team suffered a complex closed fracture of the middle third of the two tibia bones, with a large loose fragment.

The doctors decided on a closed bone fixation surgery using intramedullary nails with pins under the fluoroscopy monitor. This is a minimally invasive surgical solution, helping to minimize soft tissue damage and ensure a quick recovery.

Xuan Son's surgery began at 8:18 p.m. By 9:43 p.m., the surgery was completed. According to the doctor, the surgery involved inserting a 38cm screw vertically into Xuan Son's leg, without having to open the surgery. The surgery was a great success.

After the surgery, Xuan Son was visited by the leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), coaches, assistants and many players who sent him wishes for his quick return to top competition.
