New development space for Dien Bien
In early February 2026, Thai Nguyen University officially announced the decision to establish a Branch in Dien Bien province. Accordingly, the Branch was established on the basis of Dien Bien Pedagogical College and Dien Bien Medical College.
According to Mr. Le Van Luong - Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, the locality has great potential for agricultural and forestry development, tourism and commercial services thanks to the air route connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the border adjacent to Laos and China.


The establishment of the Thai Nguyen University Branch in Dien Bien province both meets the aspirations of ethnic minorities and opens up a new development space with a fairly comprehensive scale of education and training in many fields and professions.
Leaders of Dien Bien province also committed to accompanying and creating the most favorable environment in terms of land and mechanisms and policies for the Branch to operate effectively, considering the development of the school as the driving force for the province's development.
According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training, the branch needs to proactively build and open training majors to meet the human resource needs of the locality, including the human resource needs of Laos. In particular, pay attention to ethnic minority language training majors.
The Director of the Higher Education Department also affirmed that the Ministry will have appropriate support and supervision mechanisms, creating the best conditions for the Thai Nguyen University Branch in Dien Bien province to develop.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hung - Director of Thai Nguyen University, the birth of Dien Bien Branch is considered to have the fastest time among the Branches that have been established and is less than 1 year since there was exchange and cooperation.

In the 2026-2027 school year, the Branch in Dien Bien will develop a training program and open university-level training majors: Primary Education; Preschool Education; Nursing; Agricultural Technology; Thai Language (Thai - Lao Language Program).
Continuing to enroll and train in 2 college-level majors: Preschool Education and Nursing; 3 intermediate-level majors (nursing, General Practitioner, Pharmacy).
In addition, member universities of Thai Nguyen University can enroll and place undergraduate and master's degree programs at the Branch to meet the needs of Dien Bien province and the Northwest region.


The school commits that the quality of training at Dien Bien Branch is equivalent to Thai Nguyen University" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hung emphasized.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hung added that the Branch will invest in building new and upgrading dormitories to meet the needs of 100% of students.
Along with that, develop a project to build a research area applying high technology in agricultural production; a science and technology and innovation center of Thai Nguyen University in Dien Bien province.
