This activity aims to implement the Conclusion Notice No. 81-TB/TW dated July 18, 2025 of the Politburo on the investment policy to build schools for border communes.
Currently, there are 13 border communes in Son La province, with about 35,868 students studying at 44 primary and secondary schools.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, currently, most border communes of Son La province do not have boarding schools, while boarding schools do not meet the needs of teaching and learning well.
In particular, after merging communes and areas, the travel distance from home to school is quite long. In the same commune, there are many different schools... making it difficult for students to travel, study and live.
Long Phieng - a particularly difficult border commune - currently has 7 schools, including 2 kindergartens with 830 students; 3 primary schools with 1,044 students; 2 secondary schools with 814 students.
Mr. Lu Van Chung - Chairman of Long Phieng Commune People's Committee - said that the commune does not have a boarding school for primary and secondary school students. Therefore, investing in building an inter-level boarding school is an urgent requirement.
"We have currently issued a document proposing to the province to invest in building a new inter-level primary and secondary school with an area of about 5 hectares" - Mr. Chung said.
According to Mr. Chung, the new school is located about 500m from the commune People's Committee headquarters. With flat terrain, convenient transportation, electricity and water systems, it is convenient for the construction and operation of the school in the future.
"We hope that the project will be implemented soon so that students in the border area can study in a new, modern, spacious school with the best learning conditions ever" - Mr. Chung said.
In Chieng Khoong commune, according to the reporter's records, the whole commune has 2 kindergartens; 3 primary schools; 2 secondary schools with nearly 5,000 primary and secondary school students, of which, there are only more than 1,400 boarding students.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong - Chairman of Chieng Khoong Commune People's Committee - said that in order to comply with the planning of the central area and the infrastructure, the commune proposed to build a new primary and secondary boarding school in Le village, with an area of 5.2 hectares.
"The proposed area to build a new school is the economic center of the commune, next to the new commune headquarters planning point, which is very convenient for power supply, water supply, internet connection... Although there are still some problems with land planning, we focus on resolving them so that the project can be implemented soon" - Mr. Dong said.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Viet - Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee - said that the province has established working groups to survey the construction locations of new primary and secondary boarding schools in border communes.
The province has also assigned the Department of Education and Training (DET) to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Finance, the Department of Construction, Agriculture and Environment, and the People's Committees of 13 border communes to review and propose investment plans for the construction of schools.
"This is an important and urgent political task. Therefore, the province has directed relevant units to urgently review investment needs, construction locations and complete documents to propose to competent authorities for approval. Ensuring time, to start construction of qualified schools in August 2025 and inaugurate before August 31, 2026 in accordance with the policy of the Politburo" - Mr. Viet said.
It is known that Son La province will focus resources to invest in the construction of 13 primary and secondary schools, with a total investment of about VND 1,880 billion in 13 border communes including: Long Sap, Chieng Son, Xuan Nha, Phieng Khoai, Chieng Khuong, Sop Cop, Muong leo, Muong Lan, Muong Hung, Chieng Khoong, Phieng Pan, Yen Son, Long Phieng.
Of which, the province will build 11 new schools and add facilities, renovate and upgrade 2 schools in Phieng Khoai and Phieng Pan communes. It is expected that each school will have a scale of 3 - 5 hectares, with a total investment of about 150 billion VND/school, each school can receive 800 - 1,000 students.
