There are many reasons
Choosing a different direction, working in a non-specialized field trained in university is no longer a small story in the current context. The case of Phan Thi Trang Thao (23 years old, Hanoi) is an example. Graduating with a major in Cultural Event Organization, but during her studies, Trang Thao actively cultivated her hosting skills. This accumulation has opened up a new direction.
After graduating, I decided to pursue a career in hosting and voice training. When I started, I realized that I was really suitable for this field" - Trang Thao shared.

Reality shows that the situation of working in the wrong field also partly reflects the limitations in career orientation from an early age. Many students choose majors according to trends or family expectations, when they do not really understand their own abilities and interests.
Le Thi Anh (23 years old, Hanoi) graduated with a degree in Hotel Management - said that she had tried to work in the right profession but quickly realized that it was not suitable.
When I was in school, I also started working in the right major for a while, but felt that the nature of the profession was not suitable for my personality and interests, so I decided to try another job" - Anh said.

Opportunities come with challenges
According to sociologists, there are many reasons leading to the trend of working in different fields in young people today. Accordingly, the fluctuation of the labor market makes some majors no longer have as many job opportunities as initially expected. In addition, the increasingly diverse and interdisciplinary skill requirements also make many students gradually realize that their abilities and interests are suitable for other fields, thereby deciding to change direction in the learning process.
In the context of the constantly changing labor market and the emergence of many new occupations, career shifts are becoming more common. Universities not only train a specific profession but also equip learners with a foundation of knowledge, thinking and adaptability. Therefore, going against the profession to a certain extent can also be seen as a manifestation of flexibility.
M.A. Do Duc Long - Lecturer at the Faculty of Sociology and Development, Academy of Journalism and Propaganda - said: "Working outside the field can open up opportunities for young people to explore fields that are more suitable for their abilities. If they have a spirit of learning and adaptability, many people can still develop a successful career despite different starting points.
The important thing is that students need to equip themselves with foundational skills such as critical thinking, digital skills, communication skills; and at the same time proactively learn about the labor market, accumulate experience and expand their network of relationships to be more flexible in choosing a career.

Frankly speaking, the biggest difficulty when working in the wrong field is having to start over, especially in terms of professional knowledge and practical experience. However, in a rapidly changing labor environment, learning ability and adaptability are the decisive factors.
