Free tuition, reduce worries
In the 2025 - 2026 school year, students from preschool to high school at public schools across the country will be exempted from tuition fees. This is a great joy for millions of families, especially those with many children or low- and middle-income families.
Having three children in preschool, grade 2 and grade 6 in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le shared that tuition exemption is a special joy. For many people, this amount may not be too large, but when combined with the cost of textbooks, uniforms, boarding... it becomes a significant burden for a large family. Fortunately, since this school year, her son in secondary school has also been supported with a boarding meal of 20,000 VND/day.
"These are very humane policies, both helping to reduce financial pressure on our family and sharing the burden so that parents can feel secure in taking care of their children's education" - Ms. Le said.
The tuition exemption policy not only contributes to reducing economic pressure on families but also ensures fairness in education, helping all children, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to go to school and access equal knowledge.
Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hanh, whose child is in junior high school in Nghe An, excitedly said: In previous years, the tuition exemption policy was applied to many students in difficult circumstances. This year, tuition fees for students not covered by the policy are also exempted, creating great conditions for parents to feel secure so that their children can go to school without worrying too much about the financial burden".
Efforts to implement 2 teaching sessions/day
The implementation of teaching 2 sessions/day is being implemented by many localities to improve the quality of comprehensive education for students.
Mr. Duong Van Son - Principal of Kim Lien High School (Nghe An) - said that the implementation of teaching 2 sessions/day has been included in the plan since the beginning of the school year and is currently being implemented according to the roadmap.
Not only stopping at completing the main curriculum, the school also organizes many additional activities such as: Creative experience, career guidance, soft skills training and talent development in the fields of physical education, music, fine arts... We always hope that students will not only be good at knowledge in books, but also have the opportunity to practice life skills, explore their strengths and nurture their passion for themselves - Mr. Son shared.
According to the Principal of Kim Lien High School, teaching 2 sessions/day brings many clear benefits to students such as: Having more time to access, consolidate knowledge, and participating in many rich activities to help comprehensive development.
However, the school's facilities have not yet fully met the requirements as the demand for classrooms, functional rooms, and equipment for activities has increased significantly. Out-of-term activities and experiences also require larger funding sources, while financial resources are limited.
In addition, another challenge is arranging the timetable in a reasonable manner, both ensuring the main curriculum and balancing extracurricular activities and the rest time of students and teachers.
"The school also calculates options to share the pressure on teachers, and at the same time recommends support from management levels, because when teachers work with peace of mind, the quality of teaching will be guaranteed" - Mr. Son shared.
In Hanoi, representatives of some secondary schools said that they have developed a teaching plan for 2 sessions/day and are gradually preparing to implement it. In addition to the main curriculum, the school focuses on supplementary content in the direction of comprehensive education such as life skills, STEM activities and competency training topics for students.
