In Vietnam, the salary of semiconductor students ranges from 25 to 40 million VND, or even higher, depending on the qualifications and abilities of each individual.

Accelerating Semiconductor Training

At Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communications Technology (VKU) - Danang University, the benchmark score for Computer Engineering Technology, majoring in Semiconductor Design (engineer) is the highest at 27 points.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology currently has 2 direct training majors and 7 related training majors in design, production, packaging and testing, supporting semiconductor chip applications, which are: Electronics and Telecommunications; Microcircuit Design; Embedded Systems; Electricity/Automation; Mechatronics; Computer Engineering/Computer Science; Engineering Physics; Materials/Electronic Materials; Microelectronics and Nanotechnology. These majors all have benchmark scores ranging from about 25 points to 28.53 points (Computer Science major (IT1), based on high school graduation exam scores).

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, in the period 2019-2022, the number of new university students enrolled in STEM programs increased by an average of 10% per year, higher than the general growth rate of 6.5%. The three fields with the strongest average annual growth rates are Computer and Information Technology (17.1%), and Engineering Technology (10.6%).

Suitable majors (electronics - telecommunications, microelectronics...): New recruitment is about 6,000 and graduation is about 5,000/year (average increase of 7%/year). Related majors (mechatronics, automation, computer engineering...): New recruitment is about 15,000 and graduation is about 13,000/year (average increase of 10%/year).

The figures show that this is an attractive profession with expanding job opportunities in the future. This is also the reason why many candidates choose this profession before the threshold of choosing a career for the future.

“The more I study, the more I realize that my choice 3 years ago was the right one. I have been exposed to leading experts in the field, have been exposed to laboratories from a very early age, participated in scientific research, and feel that my capacity and skills have improved a lot compared to before” - Tran Chi Thanh - a student majoring in Engineering Physics and Nanotechnology at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi shared.

Attractive salary

From the perspective of a recruiting agency, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong - Director of Seoul Semiconductor Vina Co., Ltd. - assessed that the Vietnamese market is very open in the semiconductor field. Many companies in the world are building factories specializing in manufacturing semiconductor components in Vietnam. Therefore, the demand for recruiting personnel in this industry in the future is very large.

To ensure human resource supply, the unit regularly cooperates with many universities and colleges, welcoming students from first year to final year to practice at the factory in stages such as research and development, chip production, etc.

"During the working process, the level of skills is shown in the working process. There will be training courses for the engineer's skills to meet the company's requirements. The company has salary and bonus policies for employees, ensuring long-term commitment and dedication to the company" - Mr. Phuong shared and informed that the salary of students in this field ranges from 25 - 40 million VND, or even higher, depending on their level of ability.

To have an attractive salary, Mr. Phuong believes that, in addition to professional knowledge, students need to be equipped with foreign language skills. This is an important requirement for the semiconductor field.
