On the afternoon of April 15, Nghe An Provincial People's Council worked with the Department of Education and Training to supervise the planning and arrangement of the network of schools and classrooms in the area.
Reporting at the meeting, Director of Nghe An Provincial Department of Education and Training Thai Van Thanh said that in the 2020-2025 period, the whole province has merged and reduced 31 public schools and 200 branch schools. In addition, the province also merged Nghe An Pedagogical College into Nghe An University of Economics, renamed Nghe An University.

Up to now, the whole province has 1,507 general schools and kindergartens, 84 non-public schools, 19 vocational education - continuing education centers and 6 universities. The planning and arrangement of the school network has been implemented methodically, creating a foundation for improving the quality of comprehensive education.
Nghe An is the leading locality in the country in implementing the new general education program. Many specific educational models have been issued and effectively implemented by the province, such as the family - school - community coordination model, high-quality schools, new-style ethnic boarding schools, etc.
The province is also one of the pioneering localities in digital transformation of education, with the application of artificial intelligence (AI), deployment of an intelligent operating system (IOC), management, teaching and assessment in the direction of digitalization.
It is expected that by 2025, the rate of schools meeting national standards in the area will reach over 80%, exceeding the target of the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Nghe An's key educational quality continues to affirm its position. The results of the 2024 high school graduation exam show that the province ranked 12th out of 63 provinces and cities - an increase of 22 places compared to 2021. In regional and international excellent student competitions, Nghe An students won 5 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals, and 5 Bronze Medals. 355 students won national prizes, including 28 first prizes.
Nghe An students also actively participate in international academic playgrounds such as TimO Mathematics Olympic, INTARG invention contest, contest to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, style...
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Nam Dinh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Council highly appreciated the results of the Education - Training sector, and requested to continue reviewing and perfecting the planning of the school network, associated with the policy of merging commune-level administrative units.
The Department of Education and Training needs to proactively propose specific mechanisms and policies to develop the model of boarding and semi-boarding schools, improve the quality of vocational and higher education towards integration and modernity.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council also requested the education sector to pay attention to resolving problems such as local shortages and surpluses of teachers, strengthening education on ethics and life skills for students, ensuring security and safety in schools.
