The American journal PLoS Biology has just published a list of the most influential scientists in the world in the journal. This list was developed by a group of scientists from Stanford University (USA), based on the exploitation of the Scopus database.
According to the announcement, there are 32 scientists in the top 10,000 in the world with addresses in Vietnam. Of which, Hanoi National University has 3 scientists ranked high in the top 10,000 in the world: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Bach and Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hoang Son.
These are also the 3 scientists from Hanoi National University with the most influential quotes in the world for 7 consecutive years from 2019 to present.

Notably, VinUni this year has 5 leading foreign scientists in this ranking.
Scientists are divided into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub- fields (disciplinary/specialized).
According to the order in this ranking, this year, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc has risen to 51st place in the field of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Bach is ranked 113th in public health and Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hoang Son is 53rd in the field of IT.
Experts' evaluation is based on complex evaluation indicators, not simply counting the number of citations, and therefore giving accurate results when updating the database of more than 7 million scientists cited from Scopus' data source.
Their rankings are based on important criteria such as: Composit score; total citations (excluding self-excriptions); Hirsch h- index; Schreiber hm- index; citations for articles published as single authors; citations for articles with the main authors (first name - first author and corresponding author - corresponding author), and final authors - last author, ...
This list shows which scientists have the greatest impact in their field. If scientists are on the list of top scientists in this list of Stanfordvier in 2025, it means that their work is truly important and useful for other scientists in the world's scientific community.
Sharing with Lao Dong, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc expressed his honor and pride and said that this is the result of nearly 40 years of research, dedication and efforts in persistent work, tireless efforts.
"I and the scientists are not contributing for the purpose of being ranked, but anyway, this ranking is also an objective and fair assessment and assessment by the international community, so it is a very meaningful encouragement.
More importantly, this ranking will be a great encouragement for generations of students, with the research group and the school of advanced materials and structures that I have worked hard to create so that students and young people can confidently continue to strive, commit to the path of science, integrate with the international community and reach the pinnacle of science" - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc expressed.
According to him, the number of prestigious Vietnamese scientists in this ranking has increased significantly. This is a very proud recognition of the maturity and gradual growth of Vietnam's higher education and science and technology, especially in the context of the Central Government's recent issuance of Resolution 57 and Resolution 71/TW on strong innovation of science and technology and education - so that science and technology and education, high-quality, highly qualified human resources, can truly become the most important factors in the country's recovery, making Vietnam a rich, powerful country in the new era.
