With the number of subjects and selection methods as above, there are up to 36 ways to choose subjects for the high school graduation exam from 2025.
Adjusting the admission combination in university admissions
To adapt to the innovation in the number of exam subjects and exam formats, many universities have adjusted their admission combinations.
The University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has announced its enrollment plan for 2025. The notable new point is that the school uses 4 groups of subjects for admission to all majors/specializations, all admission methods, including: Math - English - Literature, Math - English - Physics, Math - English - Informatics, Math - English - Economic and Legal Education.
Thus, the school plans to remove the two combinations of Math - Physics - Chemistry (A00) and Math - English - Chemistry (D07), replacing them with new combinations including: Math - English - Informatics; Math - English - Economic and Legal Education.
In the 2 new combinations, the school uses 2 new subjects of the 2018 General Education program: Information Technology and Economic and Legal Education.
According to the school's explanation, the 2025 enrollment plan is designed to select excellent candidates, ensuring input quality that is suitable for the school's training requirements and meets the strict demands of the labor market.
The school will announce the detailed 2025 enrollment plan before February 2025. In case the Ministry of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City National University issue new enrollment regulations, the school will update and adjust the enrollment plan in accordance with the regulations.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade has just announced plans to consider recruiting a number of new combinations in the 2025 enrollment season, including group C.
The additional combinations are C00 (Literature, History, Geography); C01 (Literature, Math, Physics); C02 (Literature, Math, Chemistry); C14 (Math, Literature, Economic Education and Law).
According to the school, adding a number of admission combinations, including group C, aims to create opportunities for candidates with a foundation in group C to access many different professions at the school.
Similarly, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will adjust the admission combination to match the high school graduation exam subjects, while maintaining the admission combinations of 2024.
Accordingly, the school will adjust the combinations that are no longer suitable, such as eliminating combinations with exams in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, etc. and adding new combinations with subjects in Economic Education and Law, Information Technology, Technology, etc.
While many schools increase admission combinations, the National Economics University still uses 3 admission methods in 2025: Direct admission; combined admission and admission by high school graduation exam scores.
With the method of considering high school graduation exam scores, the school only uses 4 admission combinations: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English) instead of 9 combinations as in 2024.
In previous years, there were about 100 admission combinations in the high school graduation exam. However, in reality, most students only registered for admission based on traditional exam groups such as A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, Foreign Language), B00 (Math, Biology, Chemistry), C00 (Literature, History, Geography), D01 (Math, Literature, English).
Each major usually recruits students based on many combinations (maximum 4), and also only around these five traditional recruitment combinations.
This is clearly shown in the admission plan and admission combination based on high school graduation exam scores of universities.
