Eliminate high school transcript consideration
In previous years, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education used academic transcript scores for independent admission (10% of the target) or combined with competency assessment test scores (30-40% of the target). However, from 2025, the school plans to no longer use academic transcript results for either method.
The reason given by the school is that next year's students will study under a new program, each student chooses and has a transcript score in different combinations.
Ho Chi Minh City National University has also just agreed on the policy of implementing three university admission methods from 2025, while encouraging member schools to develop a combined admission method.
With this decision, schools under Ho Chi Minh City National University will move towards eliminating the priority admission method based on the transcripts of students at more than 100 high schools nationwide according to the annually updated list to ensure fairness and help candidates avoid confusion.
Previously, from 2024, Hanoi National Economics University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi Medical University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy also decided not to use the admission method based on high school transcripts.
Uyen Nhi - a 12th grade student at Viet Duc High School, Hanoi, acknowledged that the transcript score is the basis for comprehensively evaluating the 3-year learning process of high school students. However, there are still cases of raising scores and beautifying transcripts, creating negative aspects in enrollment. Therefore, the fact that schools reduce or completely eliminate admission quotas based on transcripts is both an opportunity and a challenge.
"I think more admission methods will help students increase their chances of being admitted to their favorite universities," said Uyen Nhi.
In fact, in recent times, some universities have used high school transcripts in combination with other conditions such as high school graduation exam scores, international language certificates, or additional interviews, essays, thinking assessment tests, and capacity assessments for admission.
This method is considered to be more reliable and also more fair than simply considering admission based on high school transcript scores.
Adjust the admission combination
In addition to reducing or eliminating the high school transcript admission criteria, from 2025, universities will also adjust the admission combination to match the 2018 general education program.
For example, the National Economics University only considers admission for 4 groups: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English); it does not consider admission for groups B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), C03 (Math, Literature, History), C04 (Math, Literature, Geography), D09 (Math, English, History), D10 (Math, English, Geography).
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade also said that it will consider recruiting 5 new combinations, including 4 group C combinations. This change is to create conditions for candidates with a group C foundation to access many majors and professions of the school.
The added combinations are C00 (Literature, History, Geography), C01 (Literature, Math, Physics), C02 (Literature, Math, Chemistry), C14 (Math, Literature, Economic and Legal Education), mainly in the group of law, business administration, and hotel.
In addition, the school also added another combination of three subjects: Math, Information Technology and English. This is the first time this combination has appeared, because the new general education program has Information Technology as a subject. The school uses this combination to recruit students for the majors of Information Technology, Information Security and Data Science.
