Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that in previous years, academic transcript scores were used for independent admission (10% of the target) or combined with competency assessment test scores (30-40% of the target).
However, from 2025, the school plans to not use academic transcripts with either method.
For the school's specialized competency assessment exam, students must take at least two subjects, one of which is a major subject (depending on the combination). The admission score is the total score of the major subject multiplied by a coefficient of two, plus the remaining subject.
The exam results are used to select 30 training majors, accounting for 40-50% of the total enrollment quota. The remaining number will be considered by the school based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores, with priority given to recruiting specialized students and direct admission (national and international awards).
This is not the first school to announce that it will stop considering high school transcripts for admission from 2025.
Since 2024, the National Economics University has eliminated the method of admission based on academic records. The reason given by the school is that over the years, the school has realized that most of the excellent students in specialized schools (the group eligible for admission based on academic records) are eligible for admission based on international certificates or private exam scores. Therefore, eliminating the method of admission based on academic records will reduce the virtual rate, because a candidate can use many methods.
In 2025, the school plans to maintain 3 admission methods stable compared to 2024, including: Direct admission (2%); combined admission (83%) and admission based on high school graduation exam results in 2025 (15%, down 3% compared to 2024).
With the method of using the high school graduation exam results in 2025, the National Economics University will only use 4 combinations: A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), A01 (Math, Physics, English), D01 (Math, Literature, English) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English) instead of 9 combinations as in 2024.
Schools such as Hanoi Medical University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Ho Chi Minh City University of Law... also do not consider admission based on academic records.
The reason given is that this admission method is difficult to ensure fairness. High school transcripts can be manipulated to “beautify” them for university admission.
