floor score of many schools decreased sharply
At present, about 200 universities have announced the admission floor score (measure of input quality assurance) in 2025. According to the reporter's records, the trend of admission floor scores at many schools has decreased.
Many universities in Ho Chi Minh City have reduced their floor scores in the high school graduation exam score review method, the common reduction is 1-2 points, some majors have sharply reduced 4-6 points. For example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade will accept admission documents from 16 points for majors; the Law and Economic Law majors alone are 18 points. The score of this floor decreased by 1-4 points compared to the previous year, in some majors in the fields of Management, Economics, Services, Information Technology, and Language.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, the admission floor score is 16 points, down 1-6 points for all majors. The veterinary sector recorded the sharpest decrease, from 22 points to 16 points. In particular, teacher training majors apply the floor score according to the general regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. At Ho Chi Minh City National University, many schools also adjusted their floor scores down.
Compared to 2024, the floor score in 2025 of medical and pharmaceutical schools tends to decrease compared to 2024. At Hanoi Medical University, the floor score ranges from 17-22.5 points, in which the majors with the highest rates are Medicine, Dentistry - Maxillofacial Surgery (22.5 points), followed by Traditional Medicine with 20 points.
The schools: Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy also decreased, the level decreased by about 1.5 - 2 points compared to the floor score last year, depending on the training major.
On the other hand, there are 2 universities with the highest floor scores in the country, Saigon University and the Diplomatic Academy. The floor score of Saigon University this year ranges from 17 to 25 points. At the Diplomatic Academy, the floor score for the C00 block is 25 and the remaining blocks are 22. The scores of these two schools are relatively close to last year's benchmark.
According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, former Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology (VNU), the basic reason for the decrease in the floor score this year depends mainly on the common scores of this year's high school exam.
"Although the number of candidates taking the high school exam this year is at a record high. The subject with the highest contestant list is Literature with 1,126,726 contestants, and 1,126,172 contestants in Math. The number of candidates taking the high school exam this year is the highest and largest ever. But looking at the scores of high school graduation exam results in 2025 that the Ministry of Education and Training announced on the afternoon of July 15, 2025, it shows that this year's high school exam has a breakthrough in differentiating the scores and difficulty of the exam, quite different from a few years ago", Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc analyzed.
The benchmark is expected to decrease
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc affirmed that the floor score for admission is different from the admission standard score. However, he predicted that both of these thresholds will fall compared to last year.
"I think that with the above top schools such as University of Technology, University of Technology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Foreign Trade, National Economics University, School of Law, University of Economics (VNU-UFF)... being schools with many hot majors, training with prestige and quality and graduates with good job opportunities, the benchmark scores compared to previous years have decreased but not too deep.
Even this year, the admission score of the University of Technology (VNU) is higher than last year. With the above analysis, it can be seen that the overall admission score this year will be lower than last year. For the top schools and for the hot majors, the expected admission score is 1-2 points lower than last year. As for many schools, or for majors that were admitted last year at 24-26 points, many majors will decrease sharply, from 2-4 points" - Mr. Duc predicted.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung, Vice Principal of Hanoi Medical University, predicted that the school's benchmark scores this year, especially those with a benchmark score above 28 points last year, will not have many changes. As for majors with admission scores from 27 - 28 points, the admission scores this year will decrease slightly, following the general trend of the general scores that have just been announced.
"Studyes with a benchmark score of 26 will decrease more, possibly double. From 25 points of landfall, it could have to trip up" - Mr. Tung predicted. However, according to Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung, the standard score this year still depends on the adjustment and balance between admission combinations that are detailed by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Head of the Department of Corporate Public Relations - Head of the Admissions Department of the University of Mining and Geology, said that this year's benchmark score may decrease compared to last year.
However, Mr. Ha said that candidates should note that the number of admissions last year is different from this year. "For example, there were economic and information technology majors at the University of Mining and Geology last year, the number of admissions was about 50 based on the requirements of the industry, but this year the number of admissions has been expanded, possibly up to 300 - 400, so the number of admissions may decrease," Mr. Ha analyzed.
