On the evening of December 28, the Ministry of Education and Training organized a meeting and exchange with teachers and students who achieved high results in the 2024 International Science and Technology Olympiad.
Speaking at the meeting and exchange, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Chi expressed her pride that Vietnamese students are increasingly affirming their position and outstanding abilities in the international arena.
According to Ms. Chi, each award that the students achieve is a long journey of perseverance, learning and creativity. Behind each medal is the dedication of teachers, who have wholeheartedly guided the students step by step, imparting knowledge, skills, as well as passion for scientific research.
"The students' results do not stop at medals or experiences, but they are contributing to the overall achievements and results of the country" - the Deputy Minister noted.
Professor Do Duc Thai - Secretary of the State Council of Professors of Mathematics - assessed that the achievements of the students in the team have helped Vietnam become famous in the international arena with its intellectual beauty.
That achievement shows that the students are talented in the field they are competing in and have achieved great results after hard work.
However, Professor Do Duc Thai also gave advice that despite the glorious achievements, students should not rest on their laurels. Continue to learn and improve their knowledge to reach greater glory and success in the future.
“Doing science and becoming a scientist are different. The nature of the excellent student competition is to do problems that have been solved and synthesize classic techniques in science. However, scientific creativity must do things that no one has done before, must be done with non-standard techniques. Because otherwise, it will not be possible to produce a work that leaves a real mark” - Professor Do Duc Thai shared.
Sharing his experience after a successful exam, Dang Tuan Anh, a student at Hanoi Medical University and Gold Medalist at the 2024 International Biology Olympiad, said that this year's exam was truly challenging with a harmonious combination of theory and practice, requiring in-depth knowledge in many fields. Some questions required complex data analysis or solving practical problems.
For difficult questions, I usually spend time reading the question carefully to understand the problem, then analyze the data and apply critical thinking methods. When faced with uncertain situations, I try to stay calm, reason based on my knowledge base and choose the most appropriate solution.
Dang Tuan Anh said that the exam was not only an opportunity to test his ability but also an opportunity to broaden his horizons when interacting with excellent candidates from all over the world. What he learned the most was the way they approached problems creatively and had a very strict scientific mindset. They were not only excellent in their profession but also showed confidence, courage and the spirit of learning from each other, which inspired him greatly.
